🆕 ICOMOS International Charter and Guidance on Sites with Intangible Cultural Heritage ✒️Approved at the ICOMOS General Assembly held in Ouro Preto, Brazil, in November 2024, the Charter advocates for the recognition of #intangibleculturalheritage as an integral part of site based heritage. The Charter is a reminder that intangible cultural heritage (such as practices, representations, expressions, knowledge systems skills and associated objects, archives and documents) often co-exists with aspects of tangible #CulturalHeritage, as they shape the meaning and value of these places. 🙌 🔎📖 Read the Charter : https://buff.ly/42KoDbb

🌑 ICOMOS and WMF Recognise the Moon on the 2025 #WorldMonumentsWatch ✨ The surface of our natural satellite carries significant cultural and scientific assets with over 90 sites bearing witness to millennia of engineering milestones and astronomical science. 106 artefacts related to the #Moon landing are present on the 1969 landing site known as the Tranquility Base alone! These include the astronauts’ first footprints, a silicon chip of goodwill messages from 73 world leaders, and the Apollo 11 landing module. 🌠 As we enter a new era of space exploration, World Monuments Fund and ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on AeroSpace Heritage (ISCoAH) raise awareness to the Moon’s cultural significance and the need to recognise and preserve lunar heritage by including the satellite in the World Monuments Watch biennial programme. The aim of this nomination is to advocate for international cooperation and the creation of a global framework for the protection of lunar heritage, inspired by previous conventions such as the 1959 Antarctic Treaty. 'All cultures through early time have narratives, traditional practices and relationships to the night sky and the Moon, in particular. WMF seeks, as our Scientific Committee does, to view the Moon as belonging to humanity and to advocate for the preservation of significant places within an international framework' - Prof. Beth O'Leary, ICOMOS AeroSpace Heritage ℹ️ Learn more: https://buff.ly/4gQZujh #spaceheritage 📷 NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration
