🤝 We’re proud to announce that ICube-SERTIT and Descartes Underwriting have successfully gained support from the French national space agency, CNES, following a highly competitive application process under the Ambition Aval initiative. 🛰️ Through this partnership, we will leverage high-resolution Earth observation data, including optical satellite imagery and thermal infrared data, to perform in-depth assessments of damage resulting from natural disasters such as wildfires and hurricanes. 🔗 Read the full article : https://lnkd.in/dnREhwr6

🌧 On 29 October 2024 at 14:30 UTC, exceptional rainfall caused severe flooding across the #Valencia region. A few days later, on October 31, intense precipitation also led to flooding in Castellon Province. ⚡ The #Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping service was activated to map the flood extent, monitor the situation, and assess damages. The International Charter Space and Major Disasters was also triggered to support the Spanish authorities. 🗺 In response to these dramatic flooding events, ICube-SERTIT contributed by producing detailed flood maps as part of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service Rapid Mapping (CEMS RM) and complementary damage assessment within the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters. The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) Rapid Mapping is a European Union project managed by the JRC. The consortium, including e-GEOS, the prime, ICube-SERTIT, Telespazio Ibérica, GAF AG, Ithaca Srl, CLS Group, IABG, Planetek Hellas, and GMV, provides fast and accurate mapping for emergency response. SERTIT is involved in the International Charter initiative with the support of the CNES producing complementary information. 🛰️ By analysing satellite data, we provided critical insights into flood extent, supporting emergency teams in assessing damage and coordinating response efforts on the ground. 🚀 Day 7 and already the final day of Space Week 🛰️ To end with a bang, we want to focus on one of the latest product that we worked on for Copernicus Rapid Mapping Service. 🚨 Following heavy rainfall, Croatia activated #Copernicus Emergency Management Service Rapid Mapping (EMSR766) to map the flood extent, based on COSMO-SkyMed imagery distributed by e-GEOS. 🌧️ A tool developped by SERTIT provides the estimated water depth in the flooded area. 📏 🔗 Want to see more ? 🚀 Day 6 of Space Week is dedicated to very high resolution imagery, in this case Pléiades NEO. 🛰️ On the 25th of October 2023, the category 5 hurricane OTIS hit Acapulco, Mexico 🇲🇽, causing floods, landslides and major damage to buildings. Thanks to the very high resolution of Pléiades NEO, it is possible to assess very precisely these damages. 🔎 🔗 Want to see more ? 🚀 Day 5 of Space Week falls on the same day as... Octopus Day ! 🐙 Did you know that some octopuses were visible from space ? 👀 Bombetoka Bay in Madagascar 🇲🇬 looks dazzling on Sentinel-2 imagery, might we even say ink-redible ! 🥁 💡 Here, salty seawater meets inland freshwater to form this mesmerizing shape. 🚀 Day 3 of Space Week is focused on flood seen by optical satellite imagery 🛰️ Cyclone Remal caused tidal waves and heavy rainfall, resulting in the flooding of Dhanshagor, Bangladesh. 🇧🇩 Our team was able to map the extent of the flood thanks to Pléiades-HR imagery, provided by CNES. 👉 The second image is in false colors, so the vegetation appears in red. 🔗 To see more of our products based on Pléiades-HR imagery : https://lnkd.in/dxuSphYi #SpaceWeek #satelliteimagery #earthobservation #PleiadesHR #SERTIT

🚀 Day 2 of Space Week is the perfect time to focus on satellite ability to expand beyond what's visible to the naked eye. 👀 Chile was affected by impressive wildfires during the month of February 2023. 🇨🇱 Visible even to the naked eye because of the presence of smoke, the active fires and firefronts visibility takes on a whole new level in the SWIR (Short Wave InfraRed) band of Sentinel-2. 🔥 #SpaceWeek #satelliteimagery #earthobservation #Sentinel2 #SERTIT
