Changing careers is never easy -- but with this advice from Michelle Carrizosa, job-seekers can more effectively pivot to a new field. This Women's History Month, we're celebrating Michelle and all of our incredible program managers helping learners switch careers and shaping the future of work, today and every day. 🙌
There’s no “secret recipe” that I followed to switch careers as much as I have - but there’s always been one key ingredient 👇 The skill of knowing how leverage my past experience to land me the next role This skill alone has helped me break into tech in the US, change roles in big tech multiple times with ease and even land me a job in France without having to get another degree, a certification or to do networking. But like any other skill, this skill needs to be mastered - and it’s starts with: Understanding your experience and seeing its value first Before you roll your eyes, let me tell you something… Many of my past clients struggled with this one - thinking: “my experience isn’t needed in tech” “My experience isn’t that impressive” Once they changed how they viewed their experience, they were able to sell their experience better and pivot into tech. So how can you start? - Start listing your past jobs - You main responsibilities - Your wins/achievements in each role (Gotta spend some time on this one, the answer cannot be "I have no achievements") - How you contributed to each of your past teams It's like journaling but for your career ;) This is what being intentional in a pivot looks like - and this exercise alone will 10x your career confidence. I get that when we want to change careers, we all want to go fast - but being intentional actually pays off - my clients and I are proof of this! #careerpivot #breakintotech #internationaljobs #confidence #intentional
