On 22 November 2024, ICCROM and the International Council of Museums (ICOM) renewed their longstanding partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen their shared commitment to conserving, developing, and utilizing museum collections as invaluable assets for the benefit of humanity. This renewed partnership aims to address the challenges and opportunities faced by museums in today’s rapidly changing environment to fully unlock the potential of collections-based work to support #people, #planet, #prosperity, and #peace. With this MoU, #ICCROM and #ICOM reaffirm their dedication to empowering museums as guardians of cultural heritage and agents of positive change, prioritizing Education for Sustainable Development. At this years #COP29, ICOM is proud to highlight the transformative role of culture in tackling the climate crisis and advancing sustainability within the museum sector. ICOM participated in the 2nd High-Level Ministerial Dialogue for Culture-Based Action, organised by the COP29 Presidency, the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, and the Group of Friends of Culture-Based Climate Action (GFCBCA). This milestone dialogue emphasises the growing recognition of cultural heritage as a driver for climate adaptation, thanks to the pioneering efforts since its establishment at COP28 under the leadership of Brazil and the UAE. ICOM remains steadfast in its mission to amplify the voice of culture in global climate action and is thankful to meet in the environment that COP29 allows.
