The NMSG promotes cooperation among Alliance bodies, NATO Nations and Partners to maximize the effective use of M&S.

À propos

NATO and its partners extensively use Modelling and Simulation (M&S) for various purposes like training, mission rehearsal, decision support, and in acquisition processes. The NMSG’s mission is to promote co-operation among Alliance bodies, NATO Member Nations and Partner Nations to maximize the effective utilization of M&S. The NMSG facilitates pooling and sharing of M&S resources and capabilities, efforts and knowledge of nations to provide more than any individual nation could on its own. The NMSG helps nations and organizations to align M&S-related investments and efforts, and to avoid redundant work.

  • The MSG-223 Technical Group gathered in Izmir, Türkiye, to continue advancing simulation interoperability across NATO. The focus was on critical standards such as AMSP-04 (NETN-FOM) (https://lnkd.in/ebDcBqQa) and High-Level Architecture (HLA) compliance and certification.   The team made significant progress in testing and integrating simulation systems to ensure they meet NATO’s Modeling and Simulation (M&S) standards. A key part of this work involves improving NATO's tools and processes for integration, verification, and certification, ensuring that systems are thoroughly tested for interoperability.   These efforts are vital for enhancing the effectiveness of NATO training and exercises, providing reliable and interoperable simulation systems that enable more efficient collaboration among member and partner nations.   We are also excited to announce that MSG-223 will be showcasing its work with the demo “Unleashing the Power of NATO M&S Standards” at the NATO booth during I/ITSEC 2024.   A huge thank you to all the experts and contributors—MSG-223 is paving the way for more integrated and effective training across NATO and beyond. We look forward to continuing this important work!   For more details and further information, please contact the Modelling and Simulation Coordination Office (MSCO) by email: msg@cso.nato.int.   #NATO #Simulation #Interoperability #TrainingExcellence #Innovation #IITSEC2024 #Partnership #NMSG

  • On 4 November, the NATO Standardization Office (NSO) promulgated the new NATO standard AMSP-05 Edition B “NATO Modelling and Simulation Handbook for Training and Exercises”. Developed by the NATO Modelling and Simulation Group, this standard is a practical guide for applying Modelling and Simulation (M&S) to support training and exercises. It is written from the perspective of the provider of M&S support and is based on the IEEE 1730 standard “Distributed Simulation Engineering and Execution Process (DSEEP). The standard is covered by the NATO Standardization Recommendation STANREC 4801 Edition 2 document, meaning that #NATO recommends its use on a voluntary basis and does not require the commitment of Allies to implement it. NATO Partner nations are strongly encouraged to use it as well. Both standardization documents are publicly available on the NSO website (https://lnkd.in/ebDcBqQa). For more details and further information, please contact the Modelling and Simulation Coordination Office (MSCO) by email: msg@cso.nato.int.   #NATO #WeAreNATO #simulation

  • On 17 October 2024, Defence Ministers from eighteen Allied Nations (https://lnkd.in/dNzi2yrv) signed a Letter of Intent to initiate multinational cooperation on #Distributed #Synthetic #Training (#DST). This significant milestone is rooted in the NATO Modelling and Simulation Group’s (NMSG) long-standing efforts to develop and standardise the technologies necessary to federate virtual mission training environments across Nations and across military domains. The goal is to deliver regular and frequent access to high quality, secure, immersive operational training opportunities at team, collective, joint and coalition levels. The NMSG began its work on federated virtual training many years ago, initially focused on the air domain. As the demand for virtual training kept increasing, and building on growing computing power, NMSG focused its efforts on coherent architectures and security procedures across all domains. Utilising its role as Delegated Tasking Authority for NATO Modelling & Simulation Standards to full effect, the NMSG established the standards that facilitate interoperability between the national capabilities. By recognising the capability requirement for DST, Defence Ministers paved the way for developing and fielding DST capabilities more efficiently and effectively. NMSG will continue to serve as the central pillar for DST technology development and standardisation, and will remain actively engaged in the coordination with the operational and procurement communities in charge of DST implementation.   #NATO
