The most significant inequalities in education are related to students' socio-economic backgrounds. Even in the most equitable countries, the most disadvantaged students do not achieve the same level of academic performance as their more advantaged peers. The latest edition of Education at a Glace focuses on equity in education. 🔎 Fewer than 1 in 5 adults, whose parents did not complete upper secondary education, have university degrees or another form of tertiary qualification. 🔎 In nearly every country, the completion rates among students who start a bachelor’s programme are lowest for those whose parents did not complete upper secondary education. This Spotlight provides a snapshot on the key findings from Education at a Glance 👉 https://bit.ly/3XufAqu #OECDEAG #Equity #Equality #SocioeconomicDisadvantage #LabourMarket

Two in five 15-year-olds across OECD countries have no clear career plans. This uncertainty is a problem, as it is strongly associated in longitudinal studies with poorer ultimate outcomes in employment. Career uncertainty is on the rise, especially among low performing students, but effective career guidance programmes are shown to help. The OECD Career Readiness Project works to find engaging and effective ways to bring career development to young people. Birth rates are declining in many OECD countries. How does this impact education systems? The latest Education Indicators in Focus explores demographic changes around the world and what this means for schools. ▶️ 80% of OECD countries have seen a decline in the number of 0-4 year-olds in the past decade. ▶️ Yet, the number of 5-14 year-olds has continued to grow in the past decade. ▶️ Some countries have experienced significant migratory flows, leading to greater enrolments in early education. ▶️ Many rural areas are experiencing population decline, which can lead to school closures and exacerbate education inequality. In order for countries to allocate education resources effectively, they need to understand changes in their current demographics, as well as forecasted demographic changes. See how these trends are shaping education: https://lnkd.in/e_3DM3uu #Demographics #DemographicChange #PopulationChange #AgeingPopulation #Education #BirthRates #Migration #EducationalInequality Éric Charbonnier
