At Royal Canin, we’re embracing the future of more sustainable pet nutrition, powered by the incredible potential of microalgae. In response to marine ecosystems' challenges, we’ve implemented an innovative strategy led by our Global Materials Innovation Manager, Taoufiq Errafi. His team is progressively replacing part of the fish oil used in some of our products with microalgae. This shift not only helps preserve marine ecosystems but also helps reduce our overall environmental impact. Taoufiq's initiatives exemplify how our Associates across Mars are actively tackling climate change and supporting the company’s Net Zero Roadmap 2050. His approach has already saved a billion individual anchovies this year alone, showcasing our commitment to a healthier planet. Pets truly make our lives better, and today is a special day to celebrate this connection: Happy Human-Animal Bond Day! Cats and dogs have an incredible impact on our lives, bringing us joy and comfort every day. Studies from the Waltham Petcare Science Institute highlight the powerful mental health benefits of pet companionship. Did you know, for example, that spending time with cats and dogs boosts our "happiness hormones" like oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin, while lowering cortisol, our stress hormone? For children, interacting with pets can elevate joy, and for adults, having a pet has been shown to ease symptoms of depression. The Royal Canin Foundation is committed to promoting these benefits through meaningful projects. Since 2020, they have supported 20 initiatives across 15 countries, positively impacting over 9,000 people with the help of 300 dedicated cats and dogs. In France, Legal Assistance Dogs provide emotional support to vulnerable individuals in legal proceedings; in Italy, therapy cats bring comfort to children in hospitals; and in Ukraine, specially trained dogs offer crucial support to those affected by the war at Dog-Assisted Therapy Centers. Farmers are key partners on our journey to a more sustainable world! We were honored to attend the 13th World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit in London from September 30 to October 1, where innovation and transformative business models took center stage. This year’s summit underscored the essential role of supply chain partnerships in fostering climate-resilient agriculture. Our very own Luc Beerens shared our efforts to help advance the regenerative agriculture transition. During a panel with industry experts, he highlighted the shift from traditional agricultural practices to regenerative methods that support farmers in enhancing soil health, biodiversity, carbon management, and climate resilience. At Royal Canin and Mars, we recognize farmers as indispensable partners in this journey, as their efforts in regenerative practices contribute significantly to building inclusive, resilient supply chains and driving a more sustainable future for agriculture. These regenerative approaches align with sustainable development goals by promoting healthier ecosystems and reducing environmental impact. Have you ever noticed how newborn puppies instinctively stay close to their mother? It’s not just for comfort; at this stage, they rely on her warmth to help regulate their body temperature, as they’re not yet able to do this themselves. In these first few weeks, breast milk provides the precise nutrients and immune support essential for their development. In some situations, breeders may use milk replacers when the mother's milk is unavailable, such as in cases of lactation issues or orphaned puppies.
