At the invitation of our counterparts from the DGA - Direction générale de l'armement in France, I attended the Euronaval 2024 with some colleagues. We saw many unmanned surface vessels and autonomous underwater vehicles; platforms which undoubtedly will play an increasingly crucial role in naval defence. Managed to also visit a few French companies during the short stay in France. My appreciation to all our hosts who received us warmly. A valuable experience meeting up with various government officials and industry leaders from established as well as rising tech companies there. We took the opportunity to foster closer ties with Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) with a Programme Arrangement in submarine and underwater technologies, and with Safran to jointly advance defence capabilities. Together with my DSTA colleagues, we look forward to stronger partnerships with our overseas friends!
