The landscape of IT / data suppliers is complex and manufacturers often struggle to find the right suppliers. Studies show that, manufacturing sector contributes to around 16% global GDP. Although over the years there is a decrease in % contribution of manufacturing sector to global economy, since 2014 the manufacturing sector is seen to be contributing profusely to global economy because of digitalization in their production systems and innovative business models. With stagnating market growth, low ROI, disruptions in market needs and increase in demand, even inventory management and logistics practices have become difficult to manage/optimize. Thus, traditional practices have become dormant to serve organizations’ new value propositions. Therefore, innovative digital business models are instrumental to boost the productivity, efficiency, product quality and CSR contributions. Few benefits of digitalization of the sector include increase in customization, supply chain optimization, cost reduction, diversity in risk management, hasty prototyping and increase in customer satisfaction. Although there are challenges in digitalization like: high capital expenditure, adaption to new technologies and data security concerns- the nations should look at how digital economies like IoT, Big Data and data analytics enhanced the production processes, supply chain process, product deliverables, overall quality and risk management practices thus increasing the respective country’s economy. From usage of cutting-edge technologies on the manufacturing floor to integrating those with digital technologies like digital twins, advanced robotics, additive manufacturing and vertical digital integration of supply chain, these solutions have demonstrated a significant and rapid contribution to the mankind, environment, and economy. Few such contributions can be observed by reviewing case studies of Industry 4.0 in Germany, innovate digital manufacturing techniques in Brazil, Make in India and Made in China programmes/policies. Therefore, nations and individuals should involve in studying/implementing these innovations in market thus encompassing optimization, enhancing efficiency and organizations value proposition.
