Powerful messages from Magdalena Gryszko-Szanto from EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology in her wrap-up of the #INNOVEIT Conference of the #EITCommunity on women entrepreneurship one day before Slush: 💡 "Not being an "a**hole " is crucial for more gender equality" Monika Liikamaa 💡 Initiatives like Girls Go Circular spark ideas to found businesses in women as young as 17 💡 Men should talk about their children in conversations on gender balance Here are some more perspectives from the stage: 👉 “We need a shift of mindset in women,” said Monika Liikamaa from Enfuce. In her conversation with Karin Helmstaedt, Monika demanded that we change the way we talk to our children and do not hand down our own biases to them. She advocates enabling girls and boys to solve problems together already in school and teach them how to lose and to win as a team. 👉 Catherine Schreiber also believes in the power of men and women teams. She recognised the role of men in the process of working towards a more gender-balanced world and encouraged women to be bolder, in her words: “Don’t ever hesitate to apply for anything!” 👉 Laura Wirsztel-Antonmattei from BNP Paribas Solar Impulse Venture Fund encouraged women to see the opportunity in challenges, for example by pushing for more responsible, ethical business practices. As an investor, she looks for purpose in companies to support, not only for profitability. 👉 Inga G. Grieger from BMW i Ventures, Bertrand van Leersum from Borski Fund and Kasia Piasecki from European Women in VC advised women to be bolder. Men and women should be aware of their biases, and more women founders and women investors would be needed to change the stagnating numbers in women’s engagement. 👉 Avencia Sanchez-Mejias PhD from Integra Therapeutics perceives a change in the business landscape around her. She sees women’s confidence increase, fuelled by more role models from women entrepreneurs and women investors. 👉 Olivia Nestius from Graphmatech pointed to the lack of diverse networks for women. According to her, men form networks already at university, with different activities than women do, and then stay within their circles. She perceives all-women teams as a step on the way to more diverse teams. 👉 Maki.vc, Pauliina Martikainen said, look for balanced founding teams with technical and commercial know-how, who can explain, why they would be able to succeed. Investing at early stages, teams need to demonstrate a vision and a plan. 👉 Amparo de San José Riestra gave insight into the most recent study from the EIT Supernovas and Blanca Chocarro Ruiz presented the EIT Supernovas Data Room, which collects information on more than 800 women-led, EIT-supported startups from more than 40 European countries. What are your thoughts? Also feel free to share more insights if you were there! And don’t forget to pop by at booth 6C5 at Slush today and tomorrow!

Starting the week by looking back on last week’s inspiring Advanced Manufacturing ES, where we joined as strategic partners, contributing our part in driving discussions on sustainable manufacturing. Here are the bold ideas that emerged from our roundtable discussion on #NetZero, moderated by Alejandro Moral and Innovation Manager for the West region. 🌱 Innovation is essential, but not enough While innovation is crucial, achieving Net Zero also requires supportive policies to make green technologies viable and scalable. 💡 Technologies need time to scale New technologies must be supported to become cost-competitive, ensuring a smooth transition without financial setbacks. 🌍 Europe must lead with vision Long-term strategies and strong collaboration are vital in the race towards sustainable manufacturing and innovation. ⚡ Speed matters To reach Net Zero, Europe must accelerate its efforts, focusing on speed, technology and economic feasibility. Thank you, Alfredo Neila (Plastic Repair System), Carlos Mendez (Aritex) and Gonzalo Delgado (ArcelorMittal Europe) for your contributions! 👉 Couldn’t join us but care about Net Zero? Mark your calendars for the first BoostUp! Iberia next 4 December in Porto!
