Building trust in the digital age: Highlights from the Digital Competitiveness Forum 2024 At IMD, we often say the institution has "Swiss roots but a global reach," and this sentiment was reflected at the Digital Competitiveness Forum 2024, co-hosted with digitalswitzerland at our Lausanne campus.   Centered around the theme 'Unlocking Trust in Governments’ Digital Infrastructure Programs,' the forum brought together industry and government leaders to explore the balance between large-scale digitalization efforts and public trust. It also featured the release of the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking by IMD World Competitiveness Center, where Switzerland achieved its best-ever second-place ranking, just behind Singapore.   Reflecting on Switzerland's performance, Chief Economist at IMD’s World Competitiveness Center, Christos Cabolis, remarked, “Future readiness is a soft spot for the Swiss. It’s a very interesting update for Switzerland, and the most important issues we see are strengthening cybersecurity and being able to engage the citizens of the country.” Public trust was a key focus, with Daniel Markwalder, Delegate for Digital Transformation and ICT steering at the  Switzerland Federal Chancellery, emphasizing transparency and participation as critical to building trust.   Insights from Estonia’s digital leadership offered valuable lessons. Sandra Särav, Deputy Secretary General for Economy and Innovation for the Estonian government, noted, “Digitalization shouldn’t be the goal itself—it’s simply what you need to do to be efficient.” This sentiment was echoed during a panel moderated by IMD Professor Öykü Işık, where Rainer Baumann, CIO & COO at Migros Ticaret and Kalev Reiljan, CEO at Forus Eesti, discussed how public-private partnerships are essential for fostering trust and driving innovation.   The event highlighted the vital roles of trust, transparency, and collaboration in leveraging digital transformation on a global scale.   ➡ Read more: https://bit.ly/3UUC03z   #IMDImpact #DigitalCompetitiveness #Leadership #Innovation #Switzerland   David Bach
