I’ll Always Love You Lyrics
Your kiss, your kiss, your kiss
Means more to me than anything I've ever known before
Your love, your love, your love
Is the only love I've ever known that keeps me wanting so much more
I thought there was nothing I had missed
And I thought I knew the meaning of a lover's kiss
You've turned me inside out
You've taught me what love was about
And that's why I'll always love you
[Verse 2]
Your touch, your touch, your touch
Is that velvet touch that thrills me so
How much you'll never know
When we're alone, when we're alone, when we're alone
Sometimes things that are wrong seem oh so right
Darling, please hold me tight
You've turned me inside out
You've taught me what love was about
And for this I'll always love you
About
The follow-up to Brenda Holloway’s signature hit ‘Every Little Bit Hurts’, ‘I’ll Always Love You’ featured that song’s exact same writing and production team, but only managed to reach #60 on the US charts. Brenda attributed that to Motown’s promotion efforts shifting towards the rapidly-rising Supremes:
I love that song … I liked it better than ‘Every Little Bit Hurts’ … I was upset because I did the best that I could do on that song, it was selling but they wanted my sisters at Motown, the Supremes, to sell a million so they pulled mine in so I wouldn’t sell any records and theirs would sell … that was not a wise business move.
Despite this, Brenda’s next single, the Smokey-penned ‘When I’m Gone’, would return her to the Top 40.
