minnesota is a place that exists Lyrics
You and I will pass the time
But nothing more, but nothing more
And you and I can't seem to find
The peace of mind, the peace of mind of
[Chorus]
Smoking cigarettes with pretty girls inside my head
Do you remember when you
Said you're smoking less and then you ashed it on your dress?
I fucking hate it when you
Tell me I'm upset when I'm just getting shit off my chest
I might just fucking kill you
Lay you down to rest and tell your family that you went
To fucking Minnesota
[Post-Chorus]
To fucking Minnesota
[Verse]
Oh Lord, I fucked up this time
Oh Lord, I fucked up this time
Oh Lord, I fucked up this time
Oh Lord, I fucked up this time
I don't like you, it's more like I despise you
And the more you try to convince me
That this shit ain't real, man, the more I deal with
Smoking cigarettes with pretty girls inside my head
Do you remember when you
Said you're smoking less and then you ashed it on your dress?
I fucking hate it when you
Tell me I'm upset when I'm just getting shit off my chest
I might just fucking kill you
Lay you down to rest and tell your family that you went
To fucking Minnesota
[Post-Chorus]
To fucking Minnesota
To fucking Minnesota
About
Posing as his introduction to proper “pop” music, “minnesota is a place that exists” sees glaive sing about his new cigarette addiction, the mistakes he’s made, and the end of his relationship. Using Minnesota as a metaphor for the afterlife, he expresses his anger for his last partner before a classic Jeff Hazin drum loop.
The music video, a mini-movie, sees glaive encounter a sadistic girl. The music video shifts after the climax where the girl compares glaive to her ex, proclaiming he went to “fucking Minnesota,” starting their adventurous situationship where they dine-and-dash, smoke cigarettes, and shoot guns. The movie comes to a close when glaive realizes what Minnesota really meant, leading him to take the initiative and cut her off first, as seen in the last scenes where the girl completely disappears from his memories.
The song was first teased in mid March following the start of i care so much that i dont care at all’s recording sessions. The rollout began in April with a short tease on Instagram before beginning to post TikTok videos with the song. The song was expected to be the first single for the album but was revealed to be a loose release in 2023.
