La vie en Rose was released ahead of Valentine’s Day in 2019. While studying French in middle school, Dacus would sing this song to herself to practice her pronnunciation. It is the first in a series of 7 songs, each corresponding to a holiday, with other songs celebrating Taurus season, Mother’s Day, American Independance Day, Bruce Springsteen’s birthday, Halloween, Christmas, and New Year’s. The 7 songs were eventually released together on Dacus' 2019 EP. In a statement discussing this track, Lucy Dacus said: “I want someone to listen to this while running at top speed to the doorstep of the person they adore, ready to profess their deep, undying love. (P.S., there’s a longer story about singing this song as a duet with my middle school janitor, but it is not concise).”
