Genius Annotation

The second single and title track from Everything Must Go is one of the band’s most well-known and commercially successful singles, making it to #5 in the UK Singles Chart, making it the band’s second of five consecutive top 10 singles.

The lyrics deal with the band’s change of direction after the disappearance of Richey James Edwards in 1995, pleading towards their fans to accept their new, commercial continuation of the band despite losing one of their key songwriters. Like the previous single, “A Design for Life”, the track makes extensive use of cinematic and epic strings. The decision was also made not to apply any compression to the drums, giving them a free and messy sound.

A remix of this song, made by The Chemical Brothers, features in the soundtrack of the 1998 PlayStation video game Gran Turismo.
