In Between Days Lyrics
Yesterday, I got so old
I felt like I could die
Yesterday, I got so old
It made me want to cry
[Pre-Chorus 1]
Go on, go on, just walk away
Go on, go on, your choice is made
Go on, go on and disappear
Go on, go on, away from here
[Chorus]
And I know I was wrong
When I said it was true
That it couldn't be me and be her
In between without you, without you
[Verse 2]
Yesterday, I got so scared
I shivered like a child
Yesterday, away from you
It froze me deep inside
[Pre-Chorus 2]
Come back, come back, don't walk away
Come back, come back, come back today
Come back, come back, why can't you see?
Come back, come back, come back to me
And I know I was wrong
When I said it was true
That it couldn't be me and be her
In between without you, without you
Without you, without you
[Outro]
Without you, without you
Without you, without you

In a fanzine, Robert Smith said “In Between Days” is about:
trio’s – days, people, places, ages …
On its original release in 1985, the song title was “In Between Days”.
However, since the 1990 its title has been often officially released as “Inbetween Days”, like on the 1990 Polydor Japanese reissue of The Head On The Door and all releases of the remix album Mixed Up – as “Inbetween Days (Shiver Mix)”.
To confuse things more, occasionally the title contains a hyphen (“In-Between Days”), as seen on the 1986 compilation Staring At The Sea.
Yes. According to Robert Smith in an interview with Record Collector magazine, after Fiction Records was bought by Universal Music, he had to make some concessions in order to be able to release the 4-CD rarities collection Join The Dots. One of those compromises was to allow this song to be used in an advertisement. Smith was not happy with having to compromise:
It’s left me with a very sour taste in my mouth. I’ve fought so long to retain control over what we do, because I hate music being used to sell products. I feel that what we do should mean more than that, and it does to a lot of people.
