Change the World Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I see the way the salesmen stare into the sun
I stood and watched them as they fell off one by one
And everyone's so blind, there not to help mankind
Reach into your bag of tricks and pull another one
[Pre-Chorus]
Whoa-oh! You don't wanna change the world like you say
Whoa-oh! In it for yourself, no one else
[Chorus]
(Whoa-oh!) You're ready, saving yourself
You're gonna change the world
(Whoa-oh!) You're ready, saving yourself
You're gonna change the world
[Verse 2]
Now when the day is set, they'll line up all the same
And those that need the most will never get or gain
The ones you call your friends are failing you again
Reach into your bag of tricks and make it go away
[Pre-Chorus]
Whoa-oh! You don't wanna change the world like you say
Whoa-oh! In it for yourself, no one else
(Whoa-oh!) You're ready, saving yourself
You're gonna change the world
(Whoa-oh!) You're ready, saving yourself
You're gonna change the world
[Post-Chorus]
(Whoa-oh!) And since you ain't what you say
Then just go away
'Cause some don't lie
Some don't lie
[Bridge]
Go on now, they won't tell
Go on now, save yourself
Go on now, they won't tell
Go on now, save yourself
Go on now, they won't tell
Go on now, save yourself
Go on now, they won't tell
Go on now, save yourself
[Pre-Chorus]
I said whoa-oh! You don't wanna change the world like you say
Whoa-oh! In it for yourself, no one else
(Whoa-oh!) You're ready, saving yourself
You're gonna change the world
(Whoa-oh!) You're ready, saving yourself
You're gonna change the world
[Post-Chorus]
(Whoa-oh!) And since you ain't what you say
Then just go away
'Cause some don't lie
Some don't lie
[Outro]
I think you guys should try heavy metal
Kiss my ass! Ha, ha, ha, ha
About
“Change The World” is the last track on Ixnay on the Hombre. The drum solo at the beginning is used as the main menu music for Crazy Taxi.
The drum solo and guitar track are taken from a hidden track on The Offspring’s earlier song “Smash,” off the album of the same name. That hidden track was a slowed-down version of the main riff from “Genocide,” another song off the same album.
The song’s meaning has a couple different interpretations. One is that the song is about politicians and how they lie to get in office (hence the chorus lyrics). Another interpretation was that the song was made about Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz, who also owned The Offspring’s previous record label Epitaph. Due to disagreements between Brett and The Offspring, they left Epitaph and then joined Colombia Records.
