Creep Lyrics

[Intro: T-Boz]
Yes
It's me again
And I'm back
Ah-ah, woo

[Refrain: TLC, T-Boz]
(Creep) Oh I, oh I, oh I, yeah
(Creep) Oh I, oh I, oh I, ah yeah
(Creep) Oh I oh I, oh I, ah yeah

[Verse 1: T-Boz]
The 22nd of loneliness
And we've been through so many things
I love my man with all honesty
But I know he's cheating on me

[Pre-Chorus: T-Boz]
(Creep) I look him in his eyes
But all he tells me is lies to keep me near

I'll never leave him down
Though I might mess around
It's only 'cause I need some affection

[Chorus: TLC]
So I creep, yeah
Just keep it on the down low
Said nobody is supposed to know
So I creep, yeah
'Cause he doesn't know what I do
And no attention goes to show
Oh, so I creep
[Verse 2: T-Boz]
The 23rd of loneliness
And we don't talk like we used to do
Now it seems pretty strange
But I'm not buggin', 'cause I still feel the same
Yeah, yeah

[Pre-Chorus: TLC, T-Boz]
(Creep) I'll keep giving loving
'Till the day he pushes me away
Never go astray
If he knew the things I did
(Woo)
He couldn't handle it
And I choose to keep him protected, oh

[Chorus: TLC, T-Boz]
So I creep, yeah
Just keep it on the down low
Said nobody is supposed to know
So I creep, yeah (Yeah)
'Cause he doesn't know what I do
And no attention goes to show, oh
(So I creep, yeah)
I think about us baby all the time
(Just keep it on the down low)
But you know that I'm gonna need some attention, yeah, yeah
(Said nobody is supposed to know)
And I shake it
(So I creep, yeah)
Love you forever, baby, soul and mind
('Cause he doesn't know what I do)
And you gotta know it, if you don't give it, I'm gonna get mine, yeah, yeah
(And no attention goes to show, oh)
[Refrain: TLC, T-Boz]
(So I creep) Oh I, oh I, oh I, yeah
(So I creep) Oh I, oh I, oh I, yeah
(So I creep) Oh I, oh I, oh I, baby
Oh I, oh I, oh I, ah yeah

[Interlude]
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah

[Bridge: TLC, T-Boz]
(So I creep, yeah)
I creep around because I need attention
(I just keep it on the down low)
Don't mess around with my affection, yeah
(So I creep, yeah)
I creep around because I need attention
('Cause he doesn't know what I do)
Don't mess around with my affection, yeah
(So I creep, yeah)
Oh I, oh I, oh I, ah yeah
(I just keep it on the down low)
Oh I, oh I, oh I, ah
(So I creep, yeah)
Oh I, oh I, oh I, ah yeah
('Cause he doesn't know what I do)
Oh I, oh I, oh I, ah
[Chorus: TLC, T-Boz]
So I creep, yeah (Yeah)
Just keep it on the down low
Said nobody is supposed to know
So I creep, yeah
'Cause he doesn't know what I do
And no attention, goes to show

About

Genius Annotation

“Creep” is the first single from TLC’s iconic sophomore album CrazySexyCool.

The lyrics are from the perspective of a woman who is aware of her boyfriend’s infidelity, and in turn, cheats on him in an effort to appease her need for affection.

It was the female group’s first #1 hit and got them a Grammy in 1996 for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

“Creep” was the third most successful single of 1995, finishing behind their other hit, “Waterfalls”, and Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise”.

Group member Left Eye was against this song being released. She felt it was bad advice to tell fans to cheat back when cheated on instead of encouraging them to leave. She threatened to wear black tape over her mouth in the video in protest, but instead settled on a verse in the song’s remix about the dangers of cheating. She can even be heard in the song saying “don’t creep if you don’t want to.”

What did TLC say about "Creep"?
Genius Answer

T-Boz:
“‘Creep,’ unfortunately, was one of my true stories,” T-Boz says with a laugh. “You’re with a guy and he’s not showing you attention, so another guy comes along and you’re like, ‘Hey, if you were where you were supposed to be, he couldn’t be showing me attention right now!’ I was in the middle of this drama, because the other guy was [my boyfriend’s] friend, and my boyfriend was just not getting it together.” This song was inspired by the drama she went through with Dalvin from Jodeci.

What did Left Eye say about this song?
Genius Answer

Left Eye says in an interview that ended up on her documentary Last Days of Left Eye:

I was totally 100% against Creep… for the first two albums, I was against the first single and I was outvoted both times and both of the singles blew up. Creep, I was totally against that song because I wasn’t down with cheatin' on yo man, ya know for me it’s- be faithful… I just didn’t know, ya know, “Is this the kinda message we should be sending out to people?”… If a girl is gonna catch his man cheating, this was my thing, instead of telling her to cheat back, why don’t we tell her to just leave?! Why do the words have to say that… If some people can creep and in their minds, they can feel better by going out there doing the same thing, fine, I’m just not one of those people"
