Based on scenes from Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited, “Arrows” was apparently too hot for the American release and was only included on the Japanese version of the debut album. The book centers around an observant Oxford student with a taste for the exotic who is bemused and enthralled by his friend’s erratic rich family. The family is torn apart because its members sense their values are not in step with those of the larger world.
The melody sounds kind of similar to “Run,” which was on their follow-up album Contra, which was named in part after Sebastian Flyte’s comment to the protagonist of Brideshead Revisited, Charles Ryder, that they are contra mundum, against the world.
