About Danseband/Dansband
Danseband [NOR/DEN] or Dansband [SWE] (Danceband) is a Scandinavian tag used much like the German schlager or the Finnish [iskelmä].
The genre can also be called dancebandmusic, and it is the bands themselves that are a danceband. For simplicity it is mostly knows as just “danceband”.
The genre has also formerly been known as “svensktoppar” (Swedish [chart] toppers).
Dans(e)bandmusic is a rhythmic style of music, often with simple lyrics about life and love that invites the listeners to dance. It is heavy influenced by pop music from the fifties and sixties, swing, some country and a little dash of rock ‘n’ roll.
The Swedish dansband is more influenced by the German schlager, while the Norwegian danseband is more influenced by the Swedish dansband and country – often with a humourous undertone.
The most prominent instruments used by dancebands are electric guitars, electric bass, drums, accordions and sometimes wind instruments, like saxophones.
Dans(e)band can be enjoyed by all ages but the most prominent audience are adults aged 50+, often from rural areas.
