  • Whilst in London last week, we had the privilege of receiving donated items, including laptops, micro:bits, and other accessories, generously contributed to Ghana Code Club by Akua Opong of ISLEG. These items were received on our behalf by Katie D. One of our amazing board advisors. Katie, an Edtech and Digital Learning Specialist with a deep passion for empowering girls, is dedicated to bridging the digital divide—this being one of the many ways she contributes. Based in the UK, Katie continues to champion initiatives that foster digital inclusion. These donated items will enable us to expand our reach, equipping more children and girls with essential digital skills. This vital support moves us closer to our goal of empowering the next generation with technology.

Bridging gaps between innovation and public interest | Trust, Safety & Policy | Global Shaper

My twin sister, Linda Etornam Botsyoe and I were enrolled in IT/typing classes during our school breaks in Junior High School between 2008-2010 in Bolgatanga (Upper East Region in Ghana). In 2010, after our Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE), our father enrolled us in an advanced IT class where we continued typing lessons and got introduced to Microsoft Excel while we awaited results from our exams. These classes laid the foundation for our future success. Seeing how beneficial that was for us, when my 13 year old niece completed her exams recently and had rested, I asked what she wanted to do and she responded“I want to learn Data Science” 😮 A week later, I saw an advertisement from Ghana Code Club to enroll BECE graduates in a code class. I thought it was an amazing idea because my niece had shown interest in what I do and technology in general. I forwarded the advertisement to her mom and ensured she was enrolled and had started ! It was the end of Week 1 and this young woman wanted to send me everything she learnt via email ! That was exciting. Today, she sent videos of her first presentation on building websites, focusing on eco-friendliness. Her message read, "Was my introduction okay? I was a little shy." I sent her a voice note with feedback and promised to call. I'm proud of my introverted niece, Shannelle Adu Botchway, for overcoming her fears and pursuing her dreams. My advocacy for girls in STEM aims to provide platforms for them to shine. ✨ Thank you Ernestina Appiah for the positive impact you and your team at Ghana Code Club have had on these young folks. PS: She gave me a shout out in her video 😭 #GirlsinSTEM #GirlsinTech
