Under the USAID-funded Enhancing WASH Activity, Global Communities - Ghana continues to foster partnerships for sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) outcomes. Our recent engagement with seven Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) groups in Sagnerigu, Yendi, and Karaga Districts—formed under the USAID Feed the Future Market Systems and Resilience (MSR) Activity—highlighted their 15+ years of success in financial innovation and women’s empowerment. These groups have achieved: ✅ Sustained operations ✅ Linkages with financial institutions ✅ Digitalized operations ✅ Enhanced financial literacy and leadership skills By integrating WASH initiatives into their operations, these VSLAs can address local sanitation challenges and strengthen private-sector engagement. We’re excited to build on this learning to deliver impactful, community-driven WASH interventions! 💡💪 #USAIDWASH #GlobalCommunities #CommunityDevelopment #SustainableSolutions

In Northern Ghana, USAID's Enhancing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (En-WASH) Activity is leading efforts to ensure sustainable WASH services across the region. This initiative is powered by collaboration with key partners, including Deloitte, Aquaya and Total Family Health Organisation. Together, we’re addressing critical sanitation challenges and unlocking the significant market potential in northern Ghana. With an estimated sanitation market worth GHS 275 million and approximately 550,000 households still lacking access to toilets (2021), the opportunities for impactful change are immense. Here’s how the En-WASH Activity is driving progress: ✔️ Increasing demand for sanitation facilities. ✔️ Enhancing product affordability for underserved communities. ✔️ Expanding access to finance for WASH services. ✔️ Improving accessibility to sanitation products and services. Through partnerships and innovative approaches, we’re working to provide dignity, health, and safety to communities, creating lasting and sustainable change. 🌍💧 World Toilet Day 2024 Recap: Empowering Communities Through Sanitation Awareness This year, under the USAID funded Enhancing WASH Activity, Global Communities - Ghana, in partnership with the Ghana Education Service, Ghana Health Service, District Assemblies, and other stakeholders, proudly celebrated #WorldToiletDay 2024 under the theme “Toilets – A Place for Peace.” Across six regions—Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, Northern, North East, and the grand celebration in Kpassa, Oti Region—our teams engaged communities to emphasize the critical role of toilets in fostering dignity, health, and peace in our homes and communities. Here’s how we brought the message to life: • Quiz Competitions among Junior High Schools sparked excitement while building awareness and knowledge. • Sanitation-Themed Dramas & Poetry Recitals creatively conveyed the importance of toilets as spaces of safety and peace. • Street Marches helped spread the message in communities. • Recognition of Durable Household Latrine Owners celebrated progress and the commitment to improved sanitation. • Radio Discussions amplified the message, reaching even the most remote areas. • Community Durbars united stakeholders and residents to reflect, learn, and celebrate. • Sanitation Exhibitions showcased innovative toilet products such as SATO Pans, SATO Taps, and Digni Loos, demonstrating practical solutions for safe, affordable, and sustainable sanitation. The enthusiasm from pupils, community members, and stakeholders was inspiring. Smiles lit up faces as knowledge was shared, achievements were recognized, and solutions were demonstrated to transform sanitation challenges into opportunities. As we reflect on this year’s celebration, we are reminded of the power of collaboration and the vital role of every individual in achieving sustainable sanitation for all. #WorldToiletDay2024 #ToiletsForPeace #SanitationForAll #GlobalCommunitiesGhana #BuildingResilientCommunities #SDG6
