  • Thank you, Scio Network, for the warm handoff. We're honoured to celebrate hashtag #25YearsDeveloPPP, a testament to its enduring impact and success. At The Innovation Spark, working the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH through the consortium of GreenTec Capital Partners and Scio Network has been incredibly rewarding. Thank you for providing us with an opportunity to impact startups in Ghana through Ghana Innovation Journal hosting past recipients of DeveloPPP. The experiences we've gained from develoPPP, especially in Ghana, have been enriching and impactful. Special thanks to the dedicated GIZ develoPPP team, Annabelle Söffing, and Camilo Carrillo Wilisch for their leadership. Kudos to Emmanuel "Melo" Nomafo for his contributions. Here's to continuing our impactful journey! We nominate Shobhita Soor, Marie-Reine Seshie, MBA and Edward Neequaye, CA to share their project highlights. #25YearsDeveloPPP #ImpactInvesting #SustainableDevelopment #Teamwork

  • Starlink is Here! Is Ghana’s Telecom Industry Ready for the Shake-Up? This week, Isaac Newton Acquah had a call with the BBC News to discuss the potential impact of Starlink’s entry into #Ghana Within just 24 hours of that call, #Kenyan telecom doubled its internet packages in response to Starlink’s arrival, confirming what I predicted—competition breeds innovation and better service. This is proof of what happens when a market shifts; customers gain access to services they were previously denied due to lack of competition. Ghana, with roughly 70% internet penetration, still faces connectivity issues, especially in rural areas. Starlink has an ability to create connectivity in the most remote areas. Elon Musk's Starlink strategy is just like Tesla ’s market entry: target premium users, grow with them and then I assume create cheaper offers when demand picks up. Meanwhile, local players like MTN Ghana , Telecel Ghana , and AT, who are making huge profits—MTN Ghana alone saw a 34.6% YoY revenue jump in 2023—will need to act fast to protect their share of the market. Newton’s 3rd Law teaches us that “For every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction.” As Starlink enters the scene, I expect to see better and more competitive packages emerge from our local telecom giants. What do you think? Will Starlink disrupt the market, or will our local providers rise to the occasion? Watch the video, and leave your thoughts and comments below on how you think this will play out. cc: Assist Ammishaddai Ofori
