The Nano@HMU Group, headed by Prof. Emmanuel Kymakis, is a research group within the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University, working on the realization of advanced materials and solution processable electronic and energy devices for emerging technologies and applications. NANO Group is renowned for its achievements on interfacial engineering of perovskite and organic solar cells for improved performance and stability, and on performance evaluation of PV systems in outdoor conditions. The group coordinates a postgraduate programme "MSc in Nanotechnology for Energy Applications" developed in the framework of an Erasmus LLP project, and co-leads the WP11 Energy Generation of the FET-Flagship initiative Graphene .

Today, Mr. Dimitris Papastergiou, Minister of Digital Governance of Greece, visited the facilities of Nano@HMU, Institute of Emerging Technologies at Hellenic Mediterranean University 🏛️. He was accompanied by Prof. Konstantinos Karantzalos, Secretary General of Telecommunications, Mr. Stavros Arnaoutakis, Governor of Crete, Mr. Giorgos Matalliotakis, Deputy Regional Governor of Crete, Prof. Nikos Katsarakis, Rector of Hellenic Mediterranean University, and Members of the Hellenic Parliament Mr. Maximos Senetakis and Mr. Konstantinos Kefalogiannis. During the visit, Prof. Emmanuel Kymakis, Head of Nano@HMU, Institute of Emerging Technologies, presented the lab’s pioneering research in emerging materials and devices ⚡. The delegation was introduced to advancements in perovskite solar cells, memristors, and the state-of-the-art solar testbed for evaluating next-generation photovoltaics ☀️. The discussion emphasized the importance of fostering a strong innovation ecosystem 🤝—bringing together research institutions, government bodies, and industry stakeholders to drive technological progress. Prof. Emmanuel Kymakis and Asst. Prof. Konstantinos Rogdakis also showcased the research and key achievements of the European projects ELEGANCE EIC PROJECT, INFRACHIP, and Emerge Project, among other ongoing initiatives, which are pushing the boundaries of materials science and nanoelectronics. We are always thankful for fruitful and meaningful partnerships! Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Marko Bošković from Center Of MicroelectronicTechnologies – Institute of Chem, Technol. & Metallurgy, Univ. of Belgrade, along with his colleague Olivera Živković, at Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), where part of their research work was successfully completed through the INFRACHIP project. 🔬 Research Highlights: The team has successfully implemented the fabrication of MEGs using gold, copper, silver, and aluminum electrodes with graphene oxide (GO), ensuring reproducibility by producing three devices of each type. HYPERSONIC EIC: High mobility printed networks of 2D semiconductors for advanced electronics, funded by the HORIZON-EIC-2023-PATHFINDEROPEN-01 call, has a clear mission to dramatically boost the charge transport across networks of 2D nanosheets through developing a novel junction-engineering approach. HMU will provide an enhanced statistical analysis through large-scale data collection and statistical modeling of multiple thin-film transistors (TFT) enabled by 2d materials. Our approach, combined with Machine Learning (ML) tools for pattern recognition, will offer performance prediction, reliability forecasting, and fabrication process optimization through closed feedback loops between experiments and modeling.

🌟 INFRACHIP School Webinar Series – Day 5 Recap! 🌟 We wrapped up our webinar series with another fantastic day of insightful talks from leading experts in the 2D materials field. 🎤 The day began with Dr. Stuart Thomas, Senior Editor of Nature Electronics, whose presentation was part of the ATHENA European University Colloquium Talks. Dr. Thomas introduced the Nature Portfolio of journals, focusing on applied sciences and engineering. He provided valuable insights into editorial processes—how articles are reviewed and what editors are looking for in submissions—offering an in-depth understanding of what it takes to publish in top journals like Nature Electronics. 🧪 Next, Prof. Cinzia Casiraghi showcased how supramolecular chemistry enables the production of printable and biocompatible inks from 2D materials like graphene. She highlighted the fabrication of printed devices, including photodetectors and wearable sensors, and the advantages these inks bring to flexible electronics. 💡 Dr. Giulio Rosati concluded the session by delving into the potential of inkjet printing as a method to process 2D materials like graphene. He demonstrated how this technique is adapted for producing functional inks and showcased exciting applications in biosensing and energy harvesting. 🙌 We would like to sincerely thank all the speakers for accepting our invitation and sharing their valuable insights with our participants.
