As a human, I hesitated to share this because I know how much pain disasters bring to people and communities. But as a civil engineer, I believe that seeing and understanding these changes is important - and that’s why I wanted to share it with my professional network here on LinkedIn. I often explore historical satellite imagery, sometimes to admire beauty and progress, other times to witness devastation. This recording compares Airbus and Maxar imagery of the L.A. fire in Palisades, from January 2nd (before) to January 13th (after). In the images from January 9th and 10th, you can see smoke covering the area - a sign that the fire was actively burning. You can even spot assembly areas where fire trucks and response efforts were concentrated. I begin and end with a vibrant Google Maps image - as a small sign of hope. Note: This was recorded using historical satellite imagery provided by Airbus Defence and Space and Maxar Technologies, in Aerial Views, Plex-Earth's extension for Autodesk Forma.
