A briefing on progress toward the design and construction of the two new buildings at Attikon General University Hospital in Athens through SNF’s Global Health Initiative (GHI) was held today at our offices in Athens. In attendance were Minister of Health Adonis Georgiades, Attikon General Hospital Director Spyros Apostolopoulos, SNF Legal Advisor and Member of the Board of Directors George Agouridis, Advisor to the SNF Board of Directors Vassilis Kaskarelis, Chief Legal Counsel and Member of the GHI Board of Directors Lina Giotaki, as well as representatives of SNF’s Programs, Technical Grants, and Communications teams and of the project design team and contractor. As part of our commitment to open communication with the local community of Komotini and following on the public town hall held in May 2024, we are organizing another open event on Tuesday, December 3 at 18:00 at the REX theatre. Speakers will include representatives from SNF, the Ministry of Health, project manager Hill International, and contractor AVAX Group, as well as Deputy Minister of Health Marios Themistocleous.

A new front in the treatment of serious mental illness has officially opened with the inauguration of the SNF Center for Precision Psychiatry & Mental Health at Columbia University. The SNF Center is building on recent advances in fundamental science to better understand—and therefore allow clinicians serving patients from all backgrounds to better treat—the underlying causes of such illnesses.

In keeping with our commitment to open communication with the local community as construction continues on the new SNF University Pediatric Hospital of Thessaloniki, we are organizing another public town hall discussion on Monday, December 2, at 18:00, at the Municipal Gymnasium of Filyro. Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, where the SNF Center for Precision Psychiatry & Mental Health is now in operation, honored SNF and Foundation Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos at its annual Crown Awards Gala this week.

This World Children’s Day, we’re thankful for those working to advance the rights of children. Street Child is helping primary school students in in Nepal's Madhesh Province build fundamental literacy and numeracy skills with support from SNF.
