👏 Great news from the NATMed project! 👏 We're very pleased to announce that the first NATMed Prima Project scientific publication, with the NBSCLIMATE team (Sara Pelaez Sanchez, PhD, Claudia Sánchez and Jesus Iglesias Saugar) as co-authors, is officially out. 🔎 "Evaluating the impact of Nature-based Solutions on the provision of water-related and water-dependent Ecosystem Services" explores the development of a comprehensive monitoring framework for Nature-based Solutions that integrates the assessment of ecological, socio-economic and cultural aspects under the umbrella of the IUCN Global Standard for NbS. 🌍 This framework has been applied to five case studies in the Mediterranean region, allowing to evaluate the effectiveness of the NbS developed, subject to their specific local challenges and context. 💧 In addition, the integration of the #IUCNGlobalStandard into the evaluation framework offers benefits, such as providing robust guidance for future implementation and helping to maximise the positive impacts of the intervention, contributing to sustainable water resource management in the Mediterranean and beyond. 👀 You can have a look at it here: https://lnkd.in/dQq8HUrn And thank you very much to the rest of the co-authors for their excellent work! 🌍 The 4th periodic meeting of the NATMed Prima Project was held in Bozcaada, on October 1st and 2nd, organized by our partner Demir Enerji Danismanlik in collaboration with Bozcaada Municipality. Mr. Yahya Göztepe, Mayor of Bozcaada, delivered a warm welcome speech highlighting the region's needs. The meeting focused on reviewing the progress made over the past six months, analyzing the definitions across the different work packages from a technical perspective, identifying critical challenges, and agreeing on the most effective strategies to address them. During the meeting, participants had the opportunity to visit Case Study 4 in #Bozcaada, where they explored the demo site and the nature-based solutions (#NbS) being implemented. This visit also facilitated discussions on the progress of NbS implementations across all five #NATMed Case Studies (Spain, Greece, Italy, Turkey, and Algeria). 🙏 We’re grateful to our partners Demir Enerji Danismanlik and the Bozcaada Municipality for their warm hospitality, and to Ege University and Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) for organizing such a productive case study visit! Effective communication and engagement are key elements of PRO-CLIMATE. Our recent article outlines the communication protocols developed to enhance citizen participation and active engagement. By fostering open dialogues and inclusive discussions, we are strengthening the bond between citizens, policymakers, and local organisations in the fight against climate change. These protocols are designed to: a) Facilitate trust-building among stakeholders. b) Encourage proactive engagement from community members. c) Ensure transparent and consistent communication throughout the project’s lifespan. 🌍 Sligo Living Lab Workshop: Co-Designing Climate Solutions 🌍 On September 5th, 2024, the Sligo Living Lab hosted a highly successful workshop, bringing together local stakeholders to collaboratively address some of the region’s most pressing climate challenges. This workshop is part of the larger PRO-CLIMATE initiative, which focuses on community-driven solutions. During the workshop, participants were split into four groups, each working on a specific climate scenario. Through a design sprint session, the groups actively explored potential solutions to local climate hazards, leading to a valuable exchange of ideas and data.
