Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we stand together to confront an urgent global crisis. Every day, women and girls face unspeakable violence - violence that robs them of their dignity, their safety, and their future. This is not just statistics; it is a reality we must change. 📊Almost 1 in 3 women globally have been subjected to physical and/or sexual violence. A violence often results in depression, anxiety, unplanned pregnancies, and other serious health consequences. ⚠️Every day, 140 women or girls are killed by a family member. In 2023 alone, 51,100 women and girls were murdered by intimate partners or family members. 🚨 Women facing multiple forms of discrimination - due to disabilities, poverty, or crises - are at a much higher risk of violence. ❗️ Globally, 6% of women report they have been subjected to sexual violence from someone other than their husband or partner. 🌍 Economic crises, conflicts, and climate change exacerbate gender-based violence, with 70% of women in humanitarian contexts experiencing gender-based violence. 🚪Less than 40% of women seek help, and only 10% turn to the police.
