Our partners from MAR+Invest, Healthy Reefs for Healthy People and Sureste Sostenible, A.C. attended the Foro Sostenibilidad Quintana Roo and presented recent data on the health of the MAR. This was an excellent opportunity to highlight the importance of the reef, its ecosystem services, and actions to mitigate threats to a diverse audience, including stakeholders from the private sector and government. https://lnkd.in/gUT2hivq

MAR Fund is proud to support Carbonwave through its MAR+Invest initiative! 🌊 This innovative company is upcycling sargassum in Quintana Roo to reduce stressers on the reefs and local communities: A sustainable solution for a healthier Mesoamerican Reef!
The surge of sargassum piling up on Mexico’s shores is a stark reminder of human impacts on nature. Deforestation-driven erosion and agricultural runoff, along with warming seas, are fuelling massive sargassum blooms that strain coastal ecosystems and economies. With help from the Global Fund for Coral Reefs, excess seaweed is being transformed into sustainable products. The Fund is backing this and other scalable approaches to address coral reef degradation and enhance the resilience of coastal ecosystems and communities. These solutions exemplify the collaborative path needed for communities and nature to thrive together.
