Have you heard about the ECHO Project? 🌱 It’s a game-changer for embodied carbon reporting in the built environment! ECHO (Embodied Carbon Harmonization and Optimization) is simplifying how we measure and reduce #EmbodiedCarbon emissions by creating a consistent way to define and calculate embodied carbon standards across certifications like #LEED and the Living Building Challenge (Living Future). It also includes decarbonization pledges from ASLA, ASCE, AGC, ASHRAE, and more, along with AIA’s 2030 and the Materials Pledge. This collaborative effort is boosting data sharing, consistency, and action—making decarbonization goals more achievable for everyone. Fun fact: the ECHO project received the Malcolm Lewis IMPACT Award at Greenbuild, where AIA staff attended! 🏆 Check out our newly-released AIA 2030 Commitment By the Numbers report here: https://bit.ly/3B6lDtZ Watch this video to get an overview of the ECHO Project: https://bit.ly/3CHWFSn #Architecture #Sustainability #ClimateAction

#Sustainable & Built Environment Stanford GSB Prof Hau Lee Hau Lee advocated for the "Responsible Smiley Curve" in which organizations should not only reduce wasteful harm, but create more value for the ecosystem. With the Paris Olympic Aquatic Center, Prof Martin Fischer Martin Fischer illustrated 1 of the 6 strategies to improve the equity of a depressed community. At the AIA International Conference AIA International AIA Hong Kong that drew 400 professionals from 30 countries, I facilitated a panel to learn from Disney's holistic strategies to reduce direct carbon emission by 46%, while exploring the fits for AI and industrialized construction to manage value-chain emissions.

I am deeply grateful for the invaluable mentorship and friendship extended to me by the esteemed architects at AIA Hong Kong. J Lee Rofkind, Nelson Chen, Peter Basmajian, Scott Brooks, Florence Chan, and Yimei Chan have not only imparted essential wisdom about the architectural profession but have also set a remarkable example of excellence. My aspiration is to follow in the footsteps of Nelson and J Lee, working towards the AIA fellowship.

Congratulations to our AIA members, Dr. Calvin Kam and Dickson Mak, for receiving an award for their Sai Sha project with developer SHK at the Autodesk BIM Awards 2024! A special thank you to our Membership committee Chair 梁 DipGAI,RegAI,MinstAI牧群 for representing AIA Hong Kong and supporting this meaningful event. Notably, the Sai Sha project was the only award-winning project with a private developer. It would be wonderful to have Dr. Kam and Mr. Mak share their insights on how digital construction technologies have benefited the project, inspiring others in the industry to embrace these innovative solutions. #AIAHK #BIM #DigitalConstruction #ConstructionInnovation #AutodeskBIMAwards2024

Thank you, Sharon Chan and Autodesk, for the kind invitation to the BIM Awards 2024 yesterday. It was an honor to represent AIA Hong Kong as Membership committee Chair and to support this meaningful event. Congratulations to our AIA members, Dr. Calvin Kam and Dickson Mak, from Strategic Building Innovation · bimSCORE for their well-deserved award for the Sai Sha project with developer Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited. It was wonderful reconnecting with so many familiar faces, especially Ms. Ada Fung BBS , Chairperson of buildingSMART International HK Chapter and President of the Lighthouse Club Hong Kong. I first learned about BIM and MIC during her tenure as Deputy Director of Housing for the Hong Kong SAR, where she shared her expertise in applying these advanced technologies. As a material supplier in the industry at the time, I immediately felt the impact of these innovations and began exploring how they would influence my business. Later, I enrolled in the The University of Hong Kong Master of Science in Integrated Project Delivery program to deepen my understanding of how these technologies shape the construction process, learning from other industry experts along the way and graduated with distinction. To me, Ms. Ada Fung is truly a pioneer of digital construction, whose influence continues to inspire many of us in the field. #BIMAwards2024 #AIAHK #DigitalConstruction #BIM #MIC #Leadership #ConstructionInnovation

At the AIA Hong Kong’s panel “Learning from Timber: Sustainable Applications in Different Environments” on November 8 at ICC SKY100, Evelyn Ting, Director at New Office Works, delivered an insightful presentation on the use of timber in architecture. She highlighted the Growing Up Pavilion in West Kowloon, a project that beautifully showcases timber’s potential in creating engaging and sustainable public spaces. During the talk, Evelyn discussed the design journey behind the pavilion, emphasizing how timber not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also contributes to environmental sustainability. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the unique features of the pavilion, which blends seamlessly with its surroundings while promoting community interaction. As the Membership Chair of AIA Hong Kong, I had the pleasure of leading an incredible building tour last month during the AIA HK International Conference 2024. Our international participants were treated to a remarkable cultural experience at the stunning Xiqu Centre. Xiqu Centre, a performing Chinese Opera located in Tsim Sha Tsui, is part of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and the first building completed in this ambitious district plan. Construction began on 24 September 2013 and was completed in 2018, with a total investment of 2.7 billion HK dollars. The Centre opened to the public on 20 January 2019 and has since become a cultural landmark. The architectural brilliance of Xiqu Centre is the creation of Revery Architecture Inc. and Ronald Lu & Partners. During our tour, we had the pleasure of insights from Earle Briggs, the project architect at Revery Architecture, who shared the inspiration behind the facade design, which beautifully mimics a Chinese opera stage curtain. A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Joycelyn Choi, Deputy Director of Performing Arts at the West Kowloon Culture District Authority (WKCDA) , and Ms. Margaret Chiu, Senior Manager in PR and Publicity West Kowloon Culture District Authority (WKCDA), for their warm welcome and impeccable coordination of the tour. #Architecture #AIAHK #XiquCentre #CulturalJourney #HongKong #BuildingTour #AIAIC24 #ArchitecturalIntelligence #AIAHongKong #AIAInternational
