From Zero to One! After two years of meticulous planning, the AIA International Hong Kong Conference concluded last month, featuring five days packed with intensive programs, tours, and enriching discussions. We were thrilled to host over 400 participants, with more than two-thirds coming from 27 different countries, and to engage with over 40 speakers and tour leaders.
I am immensely proud of our team at the AIA Hong Kong Chapter for not just meeting but exceeding our goals for this event. We fostered meaningful connections and exchanges within the international leadership and community, highlighted by:
- A cross-institutes leadership luncheon with The Hong Kong Institute of Architects HKIA Benny Chan, Julia Lau, CStJ, JP and RIBA Dennis Ho
- An opening reception at the US Consul General's Residence
- A conference venue at the newly completed #theHenderson by Zaha Hadid Architects
- A gala dinner attended by over 300 guests
- An international professional community panel featuring National President Kimberly Dowdell, CEO Lakisha Ann Woods, CAE, Sean C.S. Chiao, FAIA and Dr. Christine Bruckner, FAIA along with a leadership social event with AIA International President YewKee CHEONG AIA, MSIA
- Student exchange programs from HKU, CUHK, Chu Hai College, and the University of Indonesia
These experiences have created lifelong memories! I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our 15 conference sponsors, 11 firm sponsors, and the many supporting organizations, media partners, and conference collaborators. The success of this event was made possible by your trust and support.
Congratulations to the AIA Hong Kong EXCO Johnny Fu, Eric Ho, Fei FM M., and Cynthia Ting, past presidents Florence Chan, Nelson Chen, Peter Basmajian, J Lee Rofkind FAIA, LEED AP and all the committees, and the AIA International team YewKee CHEONG AIA, MSIA Segene Park for their outstanding efforts. A special thank you goes to the volunteers who assisted throughout the planning and execution phases. I am especially grateful to Shannon Ho and Roger W. for their leadership in program planning, as well as to the HOF team: Winnie H., Cherry, Joyce Luk 👩🏻💻, Candice Wong and Keith Leung.
