About us

The Professional Green Building Council | 環保建築專業議會 (PGBC) The PGBC is a non-profit making research and education institute to promote a better sustainable built environment through professional involvement. Its objectives are: (1) to conduct collaborative research and publish research results on local and global developments of green buildings; (2) to organize researches seminars and training courses in green building design and technology; and (3) to advise the government on the formulation, setting up and monitoring of a local green building labeling scheme. The PGBC is constituted as a company by guarantee. It was formed in 2002 by four Founding Members: -The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) -The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) -The Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects (HKILA) -The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) The Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP) joined in 2005. The following institutes joined as affiliate members in 2022: -The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong -The Hong Kong Institute of Architectural Conservationists -The Hong Kong Institute of Facility Management -The Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design

  • 🌍Professional Green Building Council International Conference 2025🎉 🌱Beyond Zero Carbon Design 🌟The Professional Green Building Council International Conference 2025 with the theme of “Beyond Zero Carbon Design” was successfully held on 13 January 2025. We are honoured to invite Mr LAM Chi Man, David, JP, Under Secretary for Development, Development Bureau, HKSAR Government and Prof Kam Sing Wong GBS, JP, Former Secretary for the Environment, HKSAR Government, Past Chairman of the Professional Green Building Council joined the Conference as the Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker. 👥As Hong Kong’s first professional international conference on green building in 2025, the Conference attracted over 1,300 industry professionals and participants from different parts of the globe to join both physically and virtually to discuss the strategy and cutting-edge technology to facilitate the adoption of green building design and zero carbon emission. 🎊 🏢The Conference was divided into four sessions in which overseas experts were invited to share their valuable insights into the topic🏗️: • Mr Daniel Cruddace, Architect, Partner, and 3XN Australia Director from Australia who shared on “High-rise Reform towards Carbon Reduction" • Mr Szue Hann TAN, MBA, MArch, Chair, Sustainability of the Singapore Institute of Architects from Singapore who illustrated “Property Management and Operation towards Carbon Neutrality” • Ms Sue Riddlestone OBE, Chief Executive and Co-Founder of Bioregional from UK who shared on “Net Zero and Sustainability Planning Policies for Shaping Sustainable, Inclusive Communities” • Mr Xu Wei, Dean of the Institute of Building Environment and Energy of China Academy of Building Research (中國建築科學研究院建築環境與能源研究院徐偉院長) from Mainland China who discussed “Implementing Zero-carbon Buildings and Creating a Zero-carbon City (實踐零碳建築,邁向零碳城市)” • Ms Fiona Cousins, President of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers from the U.S. who shared on “Net Zero Carbon Directives" • Mr Mathew Vola, Director of Arup from the Netherlands who talked about “Advanced Timber Design” • Mr Hyun-min Jeong, Senior Researcher of the Korea Foundation for the Traditional Architecture and Technology from Korea who discussed “Heritage Conservation towards Carbon Neutrality”   🗣️The panellists of session four included the representatives of PGBC Member Institutes. The inspiring sharing sparked off a lot of discussions and encouraged more innovative ideas, which strengthened the confidence of the sustainability of “Beyond Zero Carbon Design” for all industries.   🤝Special thanks to all our sponsors and supporting organisations for their generosity and engagement, and sincere thanks to every member and guest who participated and supported the Conference.   💚Together, let’s advocate for sustainable building practices and advances the green building industry, as well as to promote green building practices and innovations in Hong Kong!
