We had the privilege of hosting Ms Bonnie Y Chan, Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX), for an engaging fireside chat today with our Chairperson Mr Colin Shaftesley. It’s a special day for Jimmy Ma that he would like to share with you about what happened. Instead of appearing before a court in Hong Kong, he was before the Luohu People’s Court in the morning of 4th September 2024. That was his first court appearance as a GBA lawyer. He was representing the plaintiff in a contract-dispute case. The hearing was for the examination and dealing with opposition party’s challenges and the presiding judge’s questions on the intended effect of documentary evidence being adduced. The hearing was adjourned to allow time for parties to verify the accuracy of transcripts of social media communications between parties of the case, and Chinese translation of Canadian court documents. #GBAcourtappearance #GBAlawyer #hklawyerinChinacourt https://lnkd.in/g--qSz8e

In MSAB1/2024, a decision to set the record straight that (a) 'the responsibility of noise controlling is not to be shouldered by the LLB through the imposition of conditions on the liquor licence', and (b) it is the prevailing policy that 'the LLP will consider the liquor-licence premises with a good track record for at least two consecutive years immediately before the liquor licence renewal application for licence renewal for two years'.
