𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐔 𝐏𝐡𝐃 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐁𝐀 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧   🚀 Co-founders of the winning PolyU-startup MaestroClin Limited, Dr Wu Mengyao, PhD alumna from the 🔬⚕️ Department of Health Technology and Informatics (HTI), and Mr Lo Tak Ho, PhD student of HTI, earned the 🏆 silver award of 2nd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. Their R&D project focused on a novel antiglycation oral peptide for type I and type II diabetes 🍭💉. They expressed their gratitude to 👍 PolyU for its supportive policies and platforms that enable them to manifest their research through transformation and implementation, both in the competition and, expectantly in the GBA in the near future 🗺️.  💰 The total competition prize amounts to HK$10.2 million, with a 10% growth in 🎓 PhD contestants reaching over 370 this year 📊, reflecting a strong demand for postdoctoral knowledge transfer 🔄. The USRA invites our penultimate undergraduates enrolled in the 💡Undergraduate Research and Innovation Scheme (URIS) 🔬 to immerse themselves in six-week or longer research visit programmes at top-tier overseas universities, with 💰 a subsistence allowance of up to HK$35,000 and a travel allowance of HK$10,000. Apply by 15 January 2025 📅. Featured is Mr Ian Zhu from the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology (ABCT). During his 10-week research visit programme at an affilitated hospital of Harvard Medical School, Ian engaged in laboratory medical research 🏥 focused on cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure 💉 with a world-class team. “This (programme) not only expanded my professional knowledge and skills but also allowed me to experience the collaboration and innovative spirit essential in the field of medical research," Ian stated. #PolyU ranks 29th globally in the inaugural #InterdisciplinaryScienceRankings (#ISR), launched by Times Higher Education (THE) in association with Schmidt Science Fellows. Such encouraging results reflect the international recognition of the University’s achievements in promoting innovation and interdisciplinary research. Covering 749 universities from across 92 countries and territories, the Rankings evaluate universities’ performance in the three main stages of the life-cycle of research projects: inputs, process and outputs, through a total of 11 metrics. #PolyU has attained encouraging results in the #QS Asia University Rankings 2025, rising six places from its previous year’s ranking to 17th and placing it among the top 20 universities in Asia. The Rankings assessed 984 universities in Asia based on 11 indicators. PolyU has excelled in several criteria, achieving a full score on the “International faculty ratio” criterion for two consecutive years, while performing well in “Citations per paper” and “International research network”.
