  • 【Sharing Session at CURI: Cultivating Entrepreneurial Spirit on Campus】 We are pleased to have delivered a sharing session themed “Start Your Entrepreneurship Journey at PolyU” on 17 February at PolyU CURI Residential College. Mr Kelvin Wong, Director of Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship Office, PolyU, provided an overview of knowledge transfer development, as well as entrepreneurship support and resources available at the university. Additionally, KTEO’s upcoming initiatives aimed at nurturing student entrepreneurship were introduced to the students of CURI. We were delighted to have Mr Hugo Cheuk, a PolyU alumnus and Co-founder & COO of the PolyU start-up viAct, and Mr Jimmy Ng, Investment Director at Gobi Partners GBA, join us for the fireside chat. Their diverse experiences and valuable insights into the start-up ecosystem were truly inspiring and significantly enriched the session. We sincerely thank CURI Residential College, Graduate School PolyU and Student Affairs Office for arranging this opportunity to foster an entrepreneurial spirit among students.   • 【𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐔 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 2025 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 | 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐨𝐧𝐠’𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭】 The 2025 Tech Applied Summit, Hong Kong’s first premier innovation and technology event this year, was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre with the theme “Leading Tech Forward”. The event, organised by the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), brought together global leaders from government, industry, academia, research, and investment sectors to discuss cutting-edge topics such as generative AI, the low-altitude economy, and smart cities. The summit was officiated by Chief Executive John LEE with an opening address. As the only tertiary education institution with a showcase at the “Technovation Zone,” PolyU showcased cutting-edge technologies and research achievements, demonstrating its pivotal role in advancing Hong Kong’s innovation and technology development. Prof. Christopher Chao, Vice President (Research and Innovation), moderated a thematic discussion at the summit, exploring how Hong Kong and Mainland China can complement each other’s innovation and technology strengths to expand international markets. In recent years, PolyU has been actively establishing translational research institutes in Mainland China, fostering collaboration among government, industry, academia, and research sectors, to contribute to innovation growth in the Greater Bay Area and globally. In line with the summit’s theme, PolyU highlighted its latest advancements in low-altitude economy drone technologies, attracting notable guests, including Secretary for Transport and Logistics Ms Mable CHAN and ASTRI Chairman Ir Sunny LEE, who visited the PolyU booth. This demonstration exemplified PolyU’s contributions to smart city development and the growth of Hong Kong’s low-altitude economy. Additionally, PolyU’s start-up Thecon Technology (HK) Ltd showcased its “Mobile Ankle-foot Exoneuromusculoskeleton,” which has earned the CES Innovation Award. This portable and mobile rehabilitation solution reflects PolyU’s commitment to collaborating with start-ups to drive technology commercialisation. Competing against over 600 participants under the theme "Spark Infinity", Lifesparrow stood out for their innovative solutions and technical excellence, winning the 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 of the competition. Founded by Joshua Chan and Max Lee, graduates of the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering of PolyU, Lifesparrow is revolutionising search and rescue operations with their cutting-edge AI technology. Their pioneering use of RGB and infrared imagery to locate missing hikers has been particularly impactful. During the event, Mr Hendrick SIN shared his insights on investment opportunities within the Cyberport Ecosystem and highlighted the technological advantages present in the Greater Bay Area, providing forward-looking investment and development strategies for start-ups. Besides, a series of collaborative initiatives between PolyU and Cyberport were also introduced, including plans to partner with leading accelerators to co-develop acceleration programmes that support start-ups in fundraising and product development.Representatives from the three parties shared details of the first programme focused on AI and Web 3.0 and the funding opportunities available for start-ups. We were honoured to have Mr Clarence LEUNG, BBS, JP, Under Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, and Ms Betsy LAI, Principal Assistant Secretary, (Youth Affairs) Special Duties of Home and Youth Affairs Bureau and Ms Fenfen ZOU, Deputy Secretary of Xingguo County Party Committee joining us and mingle with our InnoHub start-ups. The event began with welcoming remarks from Prof. Christopher Chao, Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU. During the event, Mr Kelvin Wong, Director of PolyU KTEO, provided an overview of Entrepreneurship Development at PolyU. Prof. Chenqi ZHANG, Director of the PolyU Shenzhen Research Institute, Mr Gary HO, Engineering Manager of the Culture and Creativity Team at the Industrial Centre, and Prof. Kevin Denney, Director of the Li Ka Shing Design and Innovation Centre at the School of Design, were also invited to introduce various support for start-ups from PolyU. The session concluded with a vibrant networking event, allowing new InnoHub start-ups to connect and collaborate. Additionally, five InnoHub start-ups showcased their innovative projects and shared their entrepreneurial stories with our guests and participants.
