Edinburgh Instruments Our latest Research Highlight, based on research published in Chemistry of Materials, explores how high-pressure Raman microscopy can be used to study the structure of materials. Using an RMS1000 Confocal Microscope coupled with a diamond anvil cell, researchers at Nankai University could correlate shifts in the Raman modes of their novel material with uniform compression under increasing pressure. This was linked to the photoluminescence properties of the material, and helped explain its pressure-sensing capabilities. Edinburgh Instruments Quantum dots, nanoscale semiconductors with unique optical properties, are revolutionising fields like biological sensing, display technologies, and photovoltaics. Researchers can delve deeper into their properties using a suite of imaging techniques, including Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM). The Edinburgh Instruments RMS1000 simplifies this process by enabling all imaging modes within the same software package on the same area or volume of a sample.
