Did you know that XR technology traces its roots to an invention nearly 200 years ago? Today, this revolutionary field has reached new heights, finding applications across multiple sectors, including healthcare. 🩺 Europe’s XR ecosystem is steadily evolving, with Germany 🇩🇪, the United Kingdom 🇬🇧, and France 🇫🇷 leading in both the number of XR companies and the revenue generated by XR activities. However, due to market entry barriers and regulatory challenges, these innovative solutions remain difficult to access for doctors and patients across the European Union. With the VR Health Champions project, we are on a mission to change that by providing targeted support to our five flagship SMEs, while also expanding the European healthcare XR ecosystem through knowledge transfer and funding opportunities. What do you think about the potential of XR in healthcare? Syreon Research Institute had the pleasure of hosting REMEDi4ALL’s 3rd General Assembly Meeting Patient centricity is at the heart of the REMEDI4ALL consortium’s procedures and activities, a value shared with Syreon Research Institute. The project aims to build a sustainable European innovation platform to enhance the repurposing of medicines for all. REMEDi4ALL, now in its second year, creates new opportunities to embed patient engagement in all steps of drug repurposing while reducing both the time and cost of development by focusing on already approved, discontinued, or shelved therapeutics The General Assembly in Budapest provided a dedicated place and time for meaningful, in-depth professional and personal exchanges, which will further enhance the drive of the REMEDi4ALL consortium for the years to come. Several members of the Syreon Research Institute team attended the insightful conference hosted by Egészség Hídja Összefogás a Mellrák Ellen Egyesület/ Bridge of Health Alliance last weekend. This annual symposium is dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer, sharing the latest research, and providing a platform for patients and the public to engage with experts. This year, the Alliance’s Vice President and our Head of HR, Krisztina Toth presented the findings of a recent patient-led study on the breast cancer journey, conducted by Bridge of Health Alliance. The results of the study, to which several of our colleagues contributed to, provided valuable insights into areas where our healthcare system could improve, particularly in patient care pathways and early detection. Key takeaways from the presentation include: 🎀 Prioritizing both mental and physical health is essential. 🎀 Monthly self-examinations play a critical role in early detection. 🎀 Women aged 45-65 should attend regular screenings, and if an invitation is not received, they can contact szuresiranyitas@nnk.gov.hu. It's equally important to continue self-examinations between screenings. 🎀 Many patients still undergo surgery before consulting with an oncology team, highlighting the need for improved interdisciplinary care. 🎀 It's vital to seek information from reliable sources upon diagnosis. The day concluded with the breast cancer awareness march to the Chain Bridge, which was illuminated in pink as a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight against breast cancer. #BreastCancer #BreastCancerAwareness #Emlődaganat #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

Adherence to the antirheumatic drugs: a systematic review and meta-analysis This systematic review and meta-analysis, co-authored by Nilay Aksoy, Nur Ozturk, Przemyslaw Kardas and our colleague, Tamas Agh, aimed to analyze the adherence rate for conventional and biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), utilizing different assessment measures. The study highlights the complexity of adherence in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and the importance of understanding how adherence is measured. The results revealed significant variation in adherence rates depending on the assessment method used, with subjective measures, such as interviews and questionnaires generally showing higher rates than objective ones. The findings of this meta-analysis underscore the need for further research to validate these results and improve the reliability of adherence studies. With proper adherence reporting guidelines, the insights from this study can greatly enhance future research and clinical application. "Get it right, make it safe!” - World Patient Safety Day 2024 Today, the 17th of September, marks World Patient Safety Day, with this year’s theme from the World Health Organization emphasizing the importance of improving diagnosis for patient safety. Delayed, incorrect, or missed diagnoses can lead to prolonged illness, disability, or even death. On this day, patients, families, healthcare professionals, leaders, policymakers, and civil society come together to highlight the critical role of timely and accurate diagnosis in improving patient safety. Through the Horizon Europe Framework Program’s Mission on Cancer, Syreon Research Institute contributes to initiatives like the LEGATO Project and STREXIT 2 Project. These projects focus on developing pragmatic clinical trials to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cancer, such as Recurrent Glioblastoma and Retroperitoneal sarcoma, ultimately aiming to improve patients' quality of life.
