❓ Are you at E-world energy & water today? 📰 The event's official magazine E-World Preview features a TwinEU piece (pg 17-19) on how #digitaltwins can bring power grids to the next level, adding a cyber-layer to the physical assets of the system. 🔌 In TwinEU, the partners of the Hungarian demo are using digital twins to develop virtual grid sensors to enhance the coverage and performance of the physical ones. Thus, this will largely improve grid observability while providing a cost-efficient solution to the grid operators. 📊 On top of this, this demonstration will create a digital twin to optimize energy and balancing capacity markets trhough co-optimized market coupling. 💬 We know how to model the grid, but we need to have digital models that can follow what is happening on the networks real time. For this, data aquisition is a key enabler - said Antonello Monti at #FutureGrid25 in 📍Brussels. 🛜 The project coordinator of TwinEU added, building the european data space is the tool that makes the difference. 💡 How can business value derived from data be maximized in the distribution network sector?💡 This was just one of the many questions of the Regional Session on Data Driven Distribution (RSD3) 2025 organized by the Hungarian Electrotechnical Association (Magyar Elektrotechnikai Egyesület) 29-30 January in 📍Hungary. During the 2️⃣ days, TwinEU partners contributed to the discussions on various topics on DSOs and data aquisition/governance/sharing which brings to new viable buisness models, while improving the service to the customers at the same time. DSOs are key pillars of TwinEU, out of the 75 partners 14 are operating the distribution network in addition to E.DSO. 🎆 New year, new Deliverable! 🎆 🔎 TwinEU conducted a thorough research based on a industry survey and an analysis of 31 Horizon-projects to identify the biggest challenges that hinder the adoption of advanced digital tools - such as #digitaltwins - in the energy sector and how to overcome these. 🚧 The key obstacles include inadequate interoperability between systems, insufficient data governance and cybersecurity measures, and limited grid observability (particularly at the low-voltage level) which restricts real-time monitoring and advanced forecasting capabilities. 🔑 Building on these findings, the deliverable contains actionable solutions, such as standardizing data exchange formats and communication protocols, reducing system fragmentation, and supporting harmonized interfaces. 📌 The General Assembly nr 3️⃣ in Ljubljana - this marks the end of the first year of TwinEU! These 2 days in Slovenia - hosted by ELES, d.o.o., combined transmission and distribution system operator of the Republic of Slovenia - the project partners got themselves busy in 5 different 🔧 workshops. The objective of these were to discuss how the digital twins developed in the 8 demo sites of TwinEU will build up use cases that are relevant on a 🌐 Europe-wide scale, and how they are going to work together as a 🔗 federation of Digital Twins. ✅ It was also the first occasion to present the major outlines of TwinEU and the progress so far to our External Advisory Board consists of 15 industry experts, whose valuable feedback will help us to deliver the project objectives.
