  • 💡 Out now: Malaysia REC Market Assessment and Opportunities for Regional Integration Malaysia is emerging as a frontrunner in the development of a robust #RenewableEnergy Certificate (REC) market within the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East #ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) region. To fully unlock this potential, challenges such as standardisation, market transparency, and cross-border collaboration must be addressed. This policy brief highlights insights gathered from extensive discussions with key stakeholders in Malaysia's REC market, exploring the potential for regional integration while leveraging Malaysia's experience to advance REC markets across the BIMP-EAGA region. These valuable findings are a direct outcome of the RECAP project, an initiative funded by the BIMP-Korea Cooperation Fund (BKCF) dedicated to promoting the conceptual regional REC framework across BIMP-EAGA countries. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gwpVBXbJ ✍️ Monika Merdekawati, Veronica Ayu Pangestika, Esther Lew, and Mike Yong (MikeY)

  • 💡 Out now: A Playbook for ASEAN Power Grid Interconnector Feasibility Studies As the Special Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (SOME) commences in Langkawi to discuss the priorities of energy cooperation this year, the need for clear guidance on conducting FS becomes a necessity to advance APG projects. Hence, the Feasibility Study (FS) Playbook, "A Playbook for ASEAN Power Grid Interconnector Feasibility Studies” was developed to provide guidance in initiating FS for realising the cross-border interconnection plan under the ASEAN Power Grid (APG). This Playbook aims to provide guidance for APG stakeholders on planning and executing FS for greenfield transmission interconnectors, which is a vital component for attracting investment and propelling the ASEAN Power Grid initiative forward. It illustrates how stakeholder collaborations are utmost important to ensure successful interconnector development under feasibility study stage. The Playbook was developed by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) in collaboration with the Heads of ASEAN Power Utilities/Authorities (HAPUA) and with the support of the USAID Southeast Asia Smart Power Program (SPP). 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gBQ4jjNP ✍ USAID Southeast Asia Smart Power Program (SPP), ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE)

💡 Out now: Securing ASEAN’s Renewable Energy Future: Addressing Gaps in Electrical Safety Management System   ASEAN countries electrical safety agencies' fragmented structure often limits the effectiveness of enforcement and increases the potential for oversight.    This policy brief addresses this gap, exploring how ASEAN can follow models from developed countries like Australia, New Zealand, and the Republic of Korea (ROK) through the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation (KESCO). These electrical safety management frameworks create truly independent agencies that are separate from political and non-safety roles, thus strengthening safety implementation through better regulatory intensity and technological advancements.   🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/ggDbhw_KZahrah Z., Fadhal Pandya Faiz, Monika Merdekawati, Dongmin Oh
