Indonesia is on its way to reducing its stunting rate. The Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI) shows that Indonesia’s stunting prevalence had dropped from 24.4 percent (2021) to 21.6 percent the following year. However, the Indonesian government's target is to further reduce the number to 14 percent by 2024. This target is aligned with the second Sustainable Development Goal of creating a world free of hunger by 2030 and for Indonesia to achieve food security. eFishery's Head of Regulatory Government Affairs, Luciana Dita Chandra, addresses the condition of stunting intervention in Indonesia and how Aquaculture Technology, specifically Fish Farming Technology, should be implemented to reduce Indonesia's stunting prevalence more effectively. Ensuring sustainability is a big part of building eFishery's Aquaculture ecosystem. We are honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with Monterey Bay Aquarium to pilot the Verification Platform in Indonesia. The Verification Platform is designed to assist Shrimp Farmers in assessing their shrimp farming business and its environmental impacts. Through this collaboration and piloting program, we hope that we are one step closer to achieving an Aquaculture ecosystem that's not only productive and beneficial to the communities, but is also sustainable in practice. Check out the video and let's #GrowTogether! Gibran Huzaifah Chrisna Aditya #sustainability #sustainable #aquaculture #shrimpfarming #sustainablefarming #shrimp
To protect ocean health while meeting the growing global demand for seafood, the Aquarium is working to improve the sustainability of aquaculture around the world. Our Seafood Watch program assesses the environmental impacts of aquaculture species that are important to the U.S. market. The program assigns green, yellow, and red ratings to highlight areas of environmental risk. Our Global Ocean Conservation team – which now includes over 20 international fellows – then works collaboratively with local industry members, scientists, governments, and other stakeholders to tackle the intertwined environmental, social, and economic issues needed to improve the sustainability of the product. Until recently, small-scale shrimp farmers in places like Indonesia, India, and Vietnam – all top shrimp suppliers to the U.S. – were unable to access the global sustainable seafood market. Seafood Watch focuses on the cumulative environmental impacts of aquaculture in an entire region – not farm-level performance – and eco-certification is too costly for individual small-scale producers. To address this challenge, we developed the Verification Platform. By offering a new way to assure sustainability at a regional scale, this innovative app has the potential to drive improvements in environmental performance and open the global sustainable seafood market to hundreds of thousands of small-scale shrimp farmers. Powered by a tablet or smartphone, the platform instantly determines a farm’s performance against the Seafood Watch Aquaculture Standard and identifies what areas of production – such as water quality, health management, or feed use – may require improvements. The fit-for-purpose approach can be scaled to verify thousands of farms throughout a region. In this video, global fellow Fini Lovita describes how we’re working with our partner eFishery to pilot the Verification Platform in Indonesia. https://lnkd.in/g3EE4He2 #SustainableSeafood #aquaculture #verification #SmallScaleAquaculture #InternationalDevelopment #FitForPurpose #shrimp #ShrimpAquaculture
