Tentang kami
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working in Indonesia since 1975. The country office is in the capital Jakarta. Indonesia has been classed as a middle-income country since 2007. The country is a member of G20 – the Group of Twenty of the world’s major industrial and emerging economies – and plays a significant role in the region. Jakarta hosts the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Indonesia is therefore one of the global development partners of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). These are emerging economies that play a crucial role in achieving international development goals. GIZ is working in Indonesia on behalf of BMZ. Other parties that commission GIZ to carry out projects include the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), the German Federal Foreign Office and the European Union. German-Indonesian cooperation focuses on three priority areas: - Energy - Environmental protection - Technical and vocational education and training (TVET)/economic development It also covers the cross-cutting issues of good governance and cooperation with the private sector. Indonesia plays a key role in the context of BMU’s international cooperation because of its importance for climate change mitigation and biodiversity conservation. GIZ’s office in Jakarta is also responsible for regional projects implemented in conjunction with the ASEAN Secretariat. The regional cooperation between Germany and ASEAN that GIZ supports concentrates in the areas of Environment & Climate Change, Regional Economic Integration and Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Development. 🥳 Consumer Protection #Talks successfully held on 9 January 2024 in Jakarta, Indonesia! 💬 The ASEAN-German Project on #ConsumerProtection in ASEAN II (PROTECT II), in cooperation with Hukumonline.com, organised a discussion on "Evaluasi Seperempat Abad Perlindungan #Konsumen: Sejauh Mana Konsumen Mendapat Keadilan" which was attended by more than 290 participants in person and online. ⚖️ The discussion focused in reflecting on 25 years of implementation of Indonesia's Consumer Protection Law, which was enacted in 1999. The panellists, representing various sectors, including government, consumer associations, academics and the private sector, identified challenges in implementing the law, including the lack of an effective dispute resolution mechanism, especially in the digital age. With the revised Consumer Protection Law awaiting discussion in the House of Representatives, all panellists expected the law to address key issues such as a more effective consumer redress, protection of vulnerable consumers, unfair contract terms, etc. 🌐 Visit KonsumenCerdas microsite (https://konsumencerdas.id/) to keep up to date with consumer protection news in Indonesia! 🤝 Cambodia-Viet Nam Strengthen Ties in Agriculture & Food Processing 🌏 Fostering cross-border trade is vital for a competitive, inclusive, and globally integrated ASEAN Economic Community. ▶️ Since 2021, the ASEAN Access platform and its network partners have been supporting SMEs in accessing promising markets through up-to-date information and virtual business matchmaking. However, while digital tools offer greater efficiencies, in-person connections remain essential to building long-term partnerships and trust. 💼 From 22 to 25 December 2024, 50 SMEs from Cambodia and Viet Nam therefore joined an engaging cross-border exchange program on "Innovation, Technology, and Sustainable Packaging in Agriculture and Food Processing" in Ho Chi Minh City. 🟩 Highlights included interactive product showcases and expert insights. ✨ GIZ, Proforest, Barry Callebaut, McDonald’s, Nestlé, and PepsiCo sign agreement to promote sustainable landscape in East Kutai ✨ Kutai Timur (East Kutai) is a commodity-dependent district, among the top palm oil producing regions in Indonesia, where there are still ample opportunities to preserve diverse and precious 🌴 natural ecosystems. More than 90% of the region’s 💰 economic contribution originates from ⛏️ coal mining and 🛢️ palm oil production. The latter's contribution increased from 3% (2010) to 10% (2019) and employed more than half of the district’s 👷♀️ 👷 active workforce in 2023. Due to the supply of the district’s palm oil mills 🏭 to the refineries from the world's largest palm oil companies and because the majority of the two commodities are consumed outside of the country, the district is well integrated into the 🌏 global supply chain. Efforts to transform East Kutai into a sustainable agriculture region is enhanced by the signing of a 📜 Cooperation Agreement between the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Proforest, Barry Callebaut Group, McDonald's, Nestlé and PepsiCo. The joint signing, formalised in October 2024, further solidifies the public and private commitments 🤝 in strengthening outreach towards the Sustainable Landscape Initiative in Kutai Timur (SUSTAIN KUTIM). ▶️ Read more about the cooperation agreement https://lnkd.in/gyc5HMrh

This week, we commemorate the 20th anniversary of the tsunami in Aceh on 26 December 2004. In honor of the commemoration held at the Aceh International Forum 2024, organized by Ar-Raniry State Islamic University and Teuku Umar University on 23 December 2024, the German government’s support was recognized with an award from the Aceh Provincial Government. To support the people of Aceh and Nias, the German government allocated over EUR 170 million starting in 2005. German development cooperation was implemented in three phases: emergency relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction. Initial rapid measures were necessary to achieve significant impact in aid and rehabilitation, as well as to prepare for long-term reconstruction support. Germany supported Aceh's reconstruction and rehabilitation in the following seven areas: 🔹 Population Administration 🔹 Geological Disaster Management 🔹 Spatial Planning based on needs and environmental considerations 🔹 Housing and Infrastructure Development 🔹 Economic Recovery and Microfinance 🔹 Secondary and Vocational Education 🔹 Healthcare Services Germany also supported the establishment of the German-Indonesian Tsunami Early Warning System (GITEWS), which was fully handed over to BMKG in 2014. The TsunamiKIT was a result of a capacity development programme mainly supported by GIZ. All implementing agencies of German Development Cooperation worked closely together in the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Programme for Aceh and Nias. Technical cooperation was carried out through Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ, formerly GTZ) and BGR (Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources), while financial cooperation was implemented through KfW Development Bank. GIZ also additionally implemented programmes on behalf of other clients, including the European Union during that time. Details can be found in the German Development Cooperation brochure, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Programme Aceh and Nias (2005 ‐ 2009).
