President Jokowi has designated two industrial regions in the Riau Islands, the Wiraraja Industrial Area in Galang, and the Toapaya Industrial Area in Bintan, as part of the National Strategic Project. Wiraraja established his group firm, PT Galang Bumi Industri (GBI), on Galang Island, with a concentration on solar farms and enterprises supporting the renewable energy sector. The Wiraraja Industrial Area will be transformed into a green energy industrial zone and smart eco-industrial park. PT GBI manages 3,859 hectares of land, which includes 2,600 hectares for solar farms and green energy and 989 hectares for companies supporting new and renewable energy. Two patrol-type warships built by the PT Citra Shipyard in Batam were added to the Indonesian Navy. The Republic of Indonesia Warship (KRI) Butana-878 and KRI Selar-879 were the names of the two patrol boats. The vessel measures 45.5 metres in length, 7.9 metres in breadth, 1.8 metres in draft, and 24 knots in speed. In addition, the ship has two 12.07mm submachine guns, a 30mm cannon, and a single main gun. This demonstrates that the Batam shipyard is of a different calibre, manufacturing more than just conventional ships. Mayapada Healthcare intends to construct an international class hospital in the Batam International Health Tourism Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The hospital, which will be named Mayapada Apollo Batam International Hospital, will be developed in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals India. This is also designed to eliminate the need for patients to seek care elsewhere and promote Indonesia as a medical tourism destination. Airlangga highlighted Batam's competitive edge in the digital industry ecosystem, noting that investments in data center development there have reached around US$3 billion or Rp 49 trillion. He emphasized the advantage provided by the fiber optic cable network in Batam for data center construction and called for more new fiber optic cables and route diversity, particularly through the cable landing point at Nongsa Digital Park. The meeting included discussions on licensing issues, water availability, and sustainable energy with executives like BW Digital CEO Ludovic Hutier, Princeton Digital Group CTO Asher Ling, and GAW Capital data center manager Kok-Chye Ong. Entrepreneurs expressed interest in channeling green energy from Sumatra's hydropower to Batam to enhance the capacity of future data centers, viewing this as a significant boost to Batam's investment appeal. Airlangga Hartarto, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, has given approval the proposal to construct the Batam International Health Tourism Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Batam International Health Tourism SEZ covers an area of 47.17 hectares. This SEZ has an investment objective of IDR 6.91 trillion by 2032 and is expected to hire 105,406 people for 80 years. The main health activities at the SEZ location will be carried out in accordance with the business plan of the International Hospital (Mayapada Apollo Batam International Hospital), Nursing Academy International, MedTech Park equipped with MICE (Meetings, Incentive, Convention & Exhibition), Doctor's Housing, Dormitory, Hotel, and Retail. There were 2 million Indonesian medical tourists seeking treatment abroad, with 1.5 million choosing Malaysia and Singapore. The construction of Terminal 2 at Hang Nadim Airport in Batam has officially begun. Expected to accommodate nearly 10 million passengers, the new terminal aims to enhance the airport's capacity for both national and international travelers. The groundbreaking ceremony featured traditional elements such as the beating of a drum, ribbon-cutting, and a symbolic shoveling of cement. This significant project is targeted for completion within the next two years, marking a major milestone in Batam's infrastructure development. Muhammad Rudi, Chairman of Badan Pengusahaan Batam (BP Batam), highlighted the collaborative efforts with PT Bandara Internasional Batam (BIB) in overseeing the airport's expansion. The project also includes improvements to the external roads. Rudi expressed hopes for Hang Nadim Airport to achieve international standards and serve as a model for other airports, with plans to expand the runway to accommodate larger aircraft. Construction on the Batu Ampar Container Port continues. The Container Yard (CY) is currently undergoing expansion. Batu Ampar Container Port's CY covering area spans between 3.8 and 12 hectares. This construction will increase the Batuampar Container Port's capacity from 350,000 TEUs to 900,000 TEUs annually. This facility marks a step towards Batu Ampar Container Port being a worldwide hub. By 2025, Batu Ampar Port can handle 900,000 TEUs.
