  • 💡✨ At CIÉ, we believe the voices of young people are essential in shaping a sustainable future. Last weekend, we had the privilege of bringing together our Youth Board for an inspiring Sustainability Workshop at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA). Representing young people from across the country, Youth Board members shared their fresh perspectives and innovative ideas on how CIÉ can reimagine its operations to increase its positive impact for generations today, and tomorrow.  We are grateful to have the insight and energy of the next generation guiding us toward a more sustainable transport future in line with our goals across our three pillars of sustainability: Environment: lead the transition to a low emissions transport network and protect our natural capital. Social: foster a diverse and inclusive society by prioritising access and opportunity for all. Economic: provide a high-quality transport service to stimulate economic activity, tackle congestion and connect communities, businesses and organisations. A huge thank you to all our Youth Board members who participated and our strategic partner, SDG Champion THINKHOUSE who coordinated and hosted the workshop, joined by the team at GOAL Global who kicked off the session with an interactive and fun Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Workshop. A special thank you too to IMMA for facilitating the workshop in the Matheson Creativity Hub - the perfect space for inspired thinking.  Together, we’re building a more sustainable future — one idea at a time. 💡✨ #Sustainability #TrainsportTrailblazers #YouthLeadership #FutureFocused #CIESustainability #SustainableTransport #YouthVoices #IMMA #GOAL #THINKHOUSE #DrivingChange #IrishRail #BusEireann #DublinBus #CIETours

  • “CIÉ were delighted to support the “Tern the Tide” project as part of the CIÉ sustainability fund. This is an artist-led creative climate action project in celebration of the NPWS Little Tern conservation run by BirdWatch Ireland, and supported in partnership by Iarnród Éireann with location, advisory and operational support. An art installation built from Iarnrod Éireann safety signage was installed at Kilcoole train station in Co. Wicklow, in celebration of Ireland’s largest Little Tern Colony. The partnership, collaboration and community engagement embedded into this project ensured the achievement of environmental goals and also supported local environmental groups and communities.   To learn more about the Tern the Tide and Birdwatch Ireland Little Tern Colony conservation work see website - https://lnkd.in/eWjzZ2d2   https://lnkd.in/eNE6jbX7

  • We have just recently completed a series of Uisce Éireann Irish Water Accelerator Workshops for Water Stewardship with the CIE Group. The team there are working to deliver water saving initiatives in areas of high water usage as they rely heavily on water for daily operations, particularly for vehicle maintenance and washing. They are working on the installation of smart meters and installing water saving technologies to allow water use more efficiently across operations. • We are excited to share that the CIÉ Group has published our 2023 Sustainability Strategy Annual Review. Over the past year, we've made significant strides in reducing our carbon footprint, enhancing energy efficiency, and promoting circularity across our operations. Here are some key milestones from our latest review: - Introduction of biofuels and integration of renewable energy sources - Measures to boost energy efficiency - Transitioning our fleets towards zero-emission vehicles in partnership with the National Transport Authority 2023 was a landmark year, with CIÉ Group delivering 299.7 million passenger journeys across our operating companies @Bus Átha Cliath, @Bus Éireann and @Iarnród Éireann in 2023 - a new record. This achievement reflects our full recovery post-COVID and the trust our passengers place in public transport. We are proud to report a 21.4% increase in passenger journeys and a 1.1% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 2022 to 2023. Our carbon intensity has hit a record low of 0.95 kilograms of CO2 per passenger journey, thanks to the surge in passenger numbers and service expansion. Every journey with CIÉ Group moves us closer to a more sustainable future, reducing congestion, air pollution, energy consumption, and carbon emissions.
