Connolly’s RED MILLS and our sister brands Foran Equine and Carr & Day & Martin were delighted to participate in this year’s Irish Equine Veterinary Association (IEVA) Conference, where our resident vet Sorcha O'Connor shared valuable insights with the equine community. On Saturday morning, Sorcha presented two key sessions. The first, "Nutrition in Equine Practice: Effective Preventative Medicine," explored practical strategies for using nutrition as a preventative measure to support equine health. Sorcha’s second presentation, a Clinical Abstract on her field study, revealed fascinating findings on a novel nutritional combination—fibres, B-vitamins, and postbiotics—and its promising effects on managing equine gut acidity. For those who missed it, Sorcha’s abstract is available at ForanEquine.com, and we’ll be sharing recordings of both presentations early next week. We were also incredibly proud to sponsor the 2024 Practitioners Clinical Case Award, which was awarded to Andrea del Rincon for her outstanding case study on Fungal Sinusitis. Huge congratulations to Andrea for her achievement and contribution to equine veterinary practice. Thank you to the IEVA team and organizers for creating such a vibrant and valuable event. This conference is truly a testament to the strength and innovation within our equine veterinary community. Congratulations to all involved for a fantastic weekend of learning, networking, and growth. #ConnollysREDMILLS #ForanEquine #IEVA2023 #EquineVeterinary #EquineNutrition #VetMedicine

The countdown is on until Sorcha O'Connor will be taking to the stage at the 2024 Irish Equine Veterinary Association Conference. As a vet, and an equine nutritionist, Sorcha has great insight into how expertise in both areas can benefit horses at all life stages, and can have a role to play in preventing issues. We will also have a stand at the event, so make sure come and meet the team. #FeedYourDesireToWin

Introducing Horse Care Mash We are delighted to be expanding our much loved Horse Care Range to include our brand new Horse Care Mash. This mash is nutritionally balanced, and quick soaking - all while being low in starch and cereal grain free. It also carries the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) EGUS mark - this means it is certified according to BETA Feed Approval Mark for feeds suitable for horses and ponies prone to gastric ulcers and has undergone a stringent three-stage application process, which includes the examination of ingredients, labelling, marketing claims and independent laboratory analysis. #FeedYourDesireToWin

The countdown is on until the 2024 IEVA Conference. We are delighted to be sponsoring the Practioners Clinical Case Award this year, and we will also be hearing from Vet and Expert Nutritionist Sorcha O'Connor ————————————————————— Meet Sorcha 👋 Sorcha is a veterinarian working as part of the equine technical team at Connolly’s Red Mills. She qualified from UCD school of veterinary medicine in 2017. Over the next 5 years, she gained clinical experience in both equine and mixed practices in Melbourne, Australia and Ireland. She completed a MSc in Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs in 2022 which she focused on veterinary medicines. She joined Connolly’s Red Mills in January 2023. In this role she provides technical support, diet plans, and health and nutrition advice, regularly visiting customers’ racing and sport horse yards in Western, Central Europe and Scandinavia. She is also involved in Red Mills equine research projects where she has led work on assessment of safety and efficacy of feeds and supplements. She has a keen interest in preventative medicine, publishing a paper last year on her research on Irish veterinarians’ opinions on antimicrobial use and its future. She recognises nutrition as a fundamental pillar in equine medicine, hoping to raise veterinarians’ awareness of the link between poor diet, poor performance and chronic health conditions. Her most recent research involved a trial with a novel nutritional product containing prebiotics, digestible fibres, B-vitamins, and postbiotics’ effects on equine gut acidity. She presented her results at ESVCN Congress in September and hopes to also present at IEVA. Sorcha will highlight her findings and discuss recent published literature on equine digestion and nutrition. #IEVA #FeedYourDesireToWin
