  • What DCU Students' Union has been up to this week ⤵️ As we gear up for exams, our officers have been spreading some positivity and support across campus! 💪📚 Jamie & Aoife have been on a mission to spread good vibes by handing out coffee vouchers and good luck pens to students — a little gesture to brighten their day and help them power through the exam period! ☕✏️ We've also partnered with DCU Library to set up Destress Stations at all three Dublin City University campus libraries! 🧘♀️📖 Here, students can find earplugs, fruit, snacks, tea, and jigsaw puzzles to help them unwind and recharge. 🍏🍪🧩 Meanwhile, Karl, Brandon and Ali are representing DCU at the Union of Students Ireland National Council in Donegal this week. We can't wait to hear all about their experiences and insights when they return! 🇮🇪🎤 Keep up the great work, team! 💙 #DCU #StudentsUnion #ExamSupport #GoodLuck #Destress #USI #StudentLife

  • 🌟Updates from our VP for Wellbeing🌟 It’s been a busy and impactful week at DCU SU, filled with meaningful initiatives and updates aimed at supporting the student body. Here’s what we’ve been up to: 🗣️ Pieta House Conference Jamie Mangan attended the Pieta House Conference here on campus at Dublin City University. It was centered on the theme Bringing Light to Darkness: Re-searching lived experiences around suicide and self-harm, from crisis to recovery in Ireland. This event provided valuable insights into suicide prevention and recovery, which will help shape the Union’s campaigns and initiatives moving forward. This professional perspective will ensure that we continue to support students effectively in the most informed and compassionate way possible. 🚻 Bathroom Stickers for Student Resources Have you spotted our new bathroom floor stickers in the U Building yet? I had a great week this week celebrating World Mental Health Day through various activities! I started the week off by running an event called "Random Acts of Kindness" where I gave students coffee/lunch vouchers, and asked them to pass on the random act of kindness to someone else. I really enjoyed seeing the smiles on students' faces when I gave them these, and I hope it brightened their days massively! This event was run on both Glasnevin and St. Pats campus. I then ran an extremely successful event in conjunction with NiteLine.ie and Student Support & Development, entitled "How To Support A Friend" where we asked students what they would say, do and how they would want their friend to feel in times of need. This was a really uplifting event that created a real sense of community and stressed the importance of peer support in times of need. The finished product was also extremely pretty! And to round off the week, I attended a conference run by National Youth Council of Ireland about youth mental health and promotion! I found it extremely insightful to learn more about the foundations of the youth mental health initiatives and explore different themes surrounding this topic. I'm extremely proud of the work I accomplished this week here at the DCU Students' Union and can't wait to see what the rest of semester 1 has in store for me!
