Today we celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) which is a UN day celebrated every year on the 3rd of December. Today we promote the rights and well-being of our members, raising awareness for Down syndrome and ensuring our members have a meaningful life, and are treated equally in society. #InternationalDayofPersonswithDisabilities #IDPD2024

'That's a good question...why do something?' - Jim Rohn The book, the event...soft skills, yes...community, yes...but - Grace - YES!!! Each copy of 'Essential Skills for Physiotherapists' that sells will support Down Syndrome Ireland and two paediatric hospitals in Dublin, Ireland - CHI Temple Street, and Crumlin. There are so may drivers behind this book for me in my head, heart and gut. I feel it's unique. People from around the world collaborated to write chapters together. They did not even know one another. Now they are friends. Chapters focus on topics we are not taught in university, but only when we are out there working, or when someone mentors us. Personal brand design with Stephanie Allen PT, DPT, OCS Goals and motivation with Chris Desmond Filippo Siragusa Dealing with stress with Sergio Martín Acuña Derek Lawrance DAT, ATC Career stories from Evert Verhagen Roisin McNulty Ritchie Barber, PLY Ian Horsley and so many more. Nearly 50 authors sharing lessons. A community of givers. Givers get lucky as David Hieatt says LFG 🔥 I challenge you to find your passion project and pour your soul into it. It gives back. Hard, not easy...but that's a game to keep playing isn't it? PS Grace is my 4 year old girl. My rock. My biggest lesson. EVERY DAY. #downsyndrome #softskills #book

Meet Emmett! Emmett is in 6th class, from the Kildare branch, and is a big fan of The Grinch. Emmett loves “spending time together” over Christmas “watching movies, baking, and eating”. 🎄 Emmett started attending the Early Development Group in the Kildare branch at 6 months. Help kids like Emmett get the therapies they need by wearing a Christmas Jumper this December for Down Syndrome Ireland! Support our fundraiser by registering here: https://lnkd.in/eXUfXJ9y

“Martha, alone, has changed the face, future and culture of Penneys Waterford forever." Martha is a 21-year-old who works in Penneys in Waterford and she is a member of the Waterford South Kilkenny branch. “I look forward to going into work every week and I love the fashion and make up.” Emma works in Penneys with Martha and has told us about the major impact Martha has made in her time working at the shop. “One day, in the fitting rooms there was a mother who had her newborn baby in a pram. This lady was crying. When asked if she was okay, she said they were happy tears as her baby had Down syndrome and she can see her future here looking at Martha and how amazing she is doing."
