🌿 Love Your Valentine, Love the Planet! 💚 Valentine’s Day is all about love… but have you ever thought about the waste it creates? 💔 💐 250 million roses are grown for Valentine’s Day, many flown in from far away, contributing to carbon emissions. Source ✈️🌹 🍫 36 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolates are sold every year, most wrapped in non-recyclable packaging. Source ♻️🚫 💌 145 million Valentine’s cards are exchanged annually in the U.S. – making it the second biggest card-giving holiday after Christmas. Source 📱💬 This year, let’s make Valentine’s Day sweeter for the planet too: 💛 Give an experience instead of stuff – a picnic, a DIY spa night, or just some quality time (because let’s be honest, that’s all they really want 😉). 🌿 Choose local, seasonal flowers or a potted plant that lasts longer than a week of romance. 🍷 Cook a candlelit dinner at home – less waste, more love! Sustainability is sexy. Just saying. 😉♻️ #SustainableValentines #LoveThePlanet #EcoFriendlyRomance

International Day of Education is a celebration of education for peace and development. Supporting this day works towards SDG4 Quality Education and SDG10 Reduced Inequalities. Today, 250 million children and youth still do not attend school 617 million children and adolescents cannot read and do basic maths Less than 40% of girls in sub-Saharan Africa complete lower secondary school Around 4 million children and youth refugees are out of school Their right to education is being violated and it is unacceptable Better education will help to solve the climate crisis What can we do? Educate your team about the climate crisis Find out how it will affect YOU and YOUR life There are lots of sustainability education programs out there #carbonliteracy #climatefresk #theweek It’s an opportunity to upskill #whatyoudomatters #sdg4 #sdg10 #qualityeducationforall #educatingchildren #internationaldayofeducation #internationaldayofeducation2025 Photo Credit: UNESCO/Emily Pinna

Eating seasonally is a great way to lower your carbon footprint as it drastically reduces food miles and means the plants haven’t been artificially heated to be grown out of season. It’s a great way to vary your diet, discover new flavours and seasonal veg is often cheaper too! Fruits Oranges and lemons are coming into season in January from warmer climates like Spain Apples (Bramley) Clementines Kiwi fruit (in season from mid-Jan) Passion fruit Pears Pomegranate Vegetables The ground can be hard if there have been frosts Much of the veg patch can be hibernating right now Irish and British veg is in its prime! Beetroot (end of season) Brussel sprouts Cauliflower Celery (end of season) Celeriac Kale Leeks Mushrooms Parsnips Potatoes (main crop) Rhubarb (coming into season) Shallots Swedes Turnips #whatsinseason #seasonalveg
