Charity that supports parents, families, schools, etc, to support blind & visually impaired children

About us

Welcome to our official LinkedIn page. Féach is a parent-led charity that connects, informs, and empowers. We recognized the shortcomings in the services available to children with low vision, and felt that parents, teachers, healthcare workers, and wider society needed more practical information based on lived experience to create better outcomes for children with visual impairment and vision loss. Our solution is to produce guides for every stage in a visually impaired child’s life, hold webinars for parents, teachers, SNA’s, and young people on various important stages in education, on technology and on troubleshooting, and create safe spaces for parents to meet and talk through our peer-to-peer support group, conferences, our family information day, and our private Facebook page. Our main objective is to help children and young people with vision impairment to thrive and lead independent lives. We promote equal rights, equal access, and equal opportunities for all low-vision children and young people.

The power of parent led organisations is they can cut through the nonsense! When there was no specific training for SNA's/CA's supporting children with vision impairment in schools, Sara McCracken and myself set about finding a solution. Lived experience cannot be learnt from a book, shared knowledge is not the same as asking AI, collaborating is a creative process that produces something unique, the best bits of all we have learned over the last 20 years went into this course. We are delighted to be able to offer it again this year. Thank you Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ireland for supporting this through the Shared Island Civic Society Fund. #Equality #Education Eoghan Rice

  • Comhairle na nÓg directly involves children and young people in evolving local and national services and policies, and we're delighted to see 2 young people we know have been asked to be delegates on the Comhairle na nÓg National Youth Assembly. Laoise and Evelina have lots to say to help shape the government's policies. Laoise was nominated by Féach and Evelina was nominated by Vision Ireland. They will commit for 2 years and attend multiple meetings online and 4 annually in person. Wonderful to have young people representing these organisations! Wishing them all the best!

  • Angel Eyes NI, in partnership with Féach, is pleased to announce that we’ve secured funding once again from the Shared Island Civic Society Fund! Last year, we delivered workshops to education assistants across Ireland, empowering them to better support students with visual impairments. The response was incredible, with 270 education assistants registering their interest—and now, we’re taking it to the next level! What’s New? Inclusion of braille training. Workshops for teachers across Ireland. Angel Eyes NI and Féach, two parent-led organisations from the north and south of Ireland, have built a high-quality, evidence-based, impact-driven workshop. At the heart of the success of our previous project lies the collaboration and expertise of both organisations, bringing together all the learning and work we’ve done individually in our respective jurisdictions. This collaboration has been a fantastic journey of learning and progression, and we’re excited to be able to deliver our new project together which will continue to make a positive impact for children with visual impairments. More information will be available on the workshop and how to register in the coming weeks! Thank You to the Shared Island Civic Society Fund for enabling us to continue this impactful work.

  • Here are some wise words this Monday evening, reflecting on our conference last year with Bobbie Hickey. Whether your week started off well or not, remember to celebrate the small victories, and as cliché as it may sound, keep pushing forward. Tomorrow is a new day, build confidence, and don't give up. We wish you an amazing rest of the week! #VisionImpairmentSupport #nothingaboutuswithoutus #keepgoing #YouMatter #WeeklyMotivation

  • Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission has invited the State Exam Commission to carry out an equality review, specifically focusing "specifically to address the provision of accessible modified papers, provision of additional time arrangements, and digital paper delivery and form to candidates with a visual impairment" Féach has been campaigning for this for many years, many thanks to the IHERC for instigating this - CHANGE IS BADLY NEEDED. https://lnkd.in/e5k94a8N
