  • This Autumn, Eleanor McCaughey, Domnick Sorace and Noémie Cursoux from our Visitor Engagement Team completed their training in ‘Teaching and Learning through Art’ with the European Cultural Academy in Venice, in collaboration with the Erasmus Plus Programme. This six-day training programme was taught by artist and educator Alan Rogers and was co-organised with Marion Houssin and Sara Longo from the European Cultural Academy. As part of this course, our Visitor Engagement Team took part in both theoretical and practical training sessions, along with exhibition tours at the Venice Biennale. This training featured studies in contemporary art and highlighted the different perspectives to consider within a teaching context. It also featured collaborative workshops which encouraged experimentation through art-making and provided instruction how to adapt these newly acquired skills into our own practices at IMMA. IMMA is actively engaged in the Erasmus+ programme, specifically Key Action 1, which focuses on learning mobility for adult education. Through this initiative, IMMA staff have access to opportunities for job shadowing and training events across Europe. This not only allows our team to gain new skills and insights but also promotes cultural exchange and collaboration with international peers. For the 2024–2025 period, IMMA has secured funding to support these valuable experiences, ensuring our staff continue to bring back fresh perspectives and innovative practices to enhance our programmes and services. By participating in Erasmus+, we strive to stay at the forefront of modern and contemporary art, while fostering professional growth and a vibrant, engaged community. #IMMA #Erasmus+ #Museum #Dublin Léargas

  • IMMA is delighted to be one of five Irish organisations awarded a grant as part of Ecclesiastical Insurance Office (Ireland) and Benefact Group's ‘Movement for Good’ initiative. At IMMA, this grant will support the first phase of a major research project "Remembering the Future- The Technologies of Peace: Recording History". Led by IMMA, in partnership with IMMA Associate Researcher, Dr Isobel Harbison (Goldsmiths, University of London), the project will consist of a series of interviews to capture the work, stories, and experiences of artist-filmmakers working in Northern Ireland from 1968-1990. These interviews will form part of an oral history archive, safeguarding these valuable narratives for future generations. Additionally, the grant will support public film screenings and events in partnership with the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) and Ulster Museum, engaging both local and cross-border communities in Ireland and Northern Ireland. "We are incredibly grateful to receive this Movement for Good Award, which enables us to preserve the voices and stories of pioneering filmmakers, safeguarding an important part of Northern Ireland’s cultural heritage. This project will help future generations reflect on these historical narratives, while also promoting collaboration and a deeper understanding of art’s role in peacebuilding and reconciliation. Such support is key to developing IMMA's role as a global research centre “ Annie Fletcher, Director (IMMA). Driving the impact of good causes through donating all of its available profits is core to the purpose of specialist insurer Ecclesiastical, and its parent company Benefact Group. Through these grants over half a million euro has been awarded this year to transform projects in Ireland and the UK.
