JCA congratulates The Heritage Council, recipient of one of Europe’s most prestigious Awards in the heritage field, The Europa Nostra for the Traditional Farm Buildings Grant Scheme in recognition of the cultural value of traditional farm buildings JCA are delighted that our project, the Jockeys Weigh Room, was chosen as the venue for the presentation of the award by Commissioner Michael McGrath. Ballindenisk has a long tradition of hosting public equestrian sporting events with the first point-to - point horse races held in 1926. The Jockeys Weigh Room was constructed in 1927 as a lightweight timber framed structure on a concrete base and clad in corrugated galvanised iron. The races would have over the years attracted close on 100,000 people and many of the top jockeys, trainers, and horses over the near 100 years. There is an internal hut in the building, used for selling the race cards, and holding a record of the “going” and weather for many of the past races. We are honored that the Mercy Hospital Cancer Care Centre has have received the Cork Business Association Better Building award in the Heritage, Conservation and Sustainability category. The centre at 9 Dyke Parade is a state-of –the art building, designed by the exceptional team at JCA Architects. The design and renovation of the building required the architects to produce a building that is dedicated to meeting the needs of patients in a comforting setting, while honouring the buildings original eighteenth century design. We are proud to be able to provide vital psychological support to patients of the Mercy as they navigate their cancer treatment, and this building offers a beautiful, serene space which does not feel clinical but is conveniently located close to the hospital. Congratulations JCA Architects, thank you for your exceptional work and to all that made it possible. JCA are delighted to have completed the restoration of the facade of MTU Gallery at 46 Grand Parade, Cork. This encompassed the careful conservation of the oolitithic stone ionic capitals and consolidation of the friable stucco work using discreet stitching and moulded repairs. The graining of the painted columns reinstates the original finish seen on historic photographs #conservation

𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗕𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 - 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 €𝟱𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 Minister Noonan has announced changes to the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) to allow for additional time to complete works and higher maximum grants. Grants of up to €50,000 are now available to cover the cost of maintaining and conserving Ireland’s architectural heritage. A significant increase on the previous maximum award of €15,000, the grants will provide a boost for owners seeking help to protect their building’s historic character. In addition, the timeframe of the scheme is changing with applications open from now until Friday 27 September. Successful projects will be announced in early January, giving owners and craftspeople additional time to schedule and complete their projects during 2025. Previously, application opened in November with awards announced in March of the following year.
