JCA congratulates The Heritage Council, recipient of one of Europe’s most prestigious Awards in the heritage field, The Europa Nostra for the Traditional Farm Buildings Grant Scheme in recognition of the cultural value of traditional farm buildings JCA are delighted that our project, the Jockeys Weigh Room, was chosen as the venue for the presentation of the award by Commissioner Michael McGrath. Ballindenisk has a long tradition of hosting public equestrian sporting events with the first point-to - point horse races held in 1926. The Jockeys Weigh Room was constructed in 1927 as a lightweight timber framed structure on a concrete base and clad in corrugated galvanised iron. The races would have over the years attracted close on 100,000 people and many of the top jockeys, trainers, and horses over the near 100 years. There is an internal hut in the building, used for selling the race cards, and holding a record of the “going” and weather for many of the past races. Photos courtesy of and © Clare Keogh Photography
