Last week we held our inaugural Biomaterials Forum at our IKON Global Innovation Centre, which explored ways to advance and harness the transformative potential of bio-based materials such as hemp and wood fibre, as well as biopolymers and bioprocessing, in the built environment. The event brought together leading industry experts, renowned academics and pioneering researchers to discuss innovative solutions to reduce embodied carbon and share insights on cutting edge biotechnology, sustainable retrofitting and the evolving EU landscape for the bio-based supply chain. Thank you to our guest speakers Ian Archer of BioConnect Innovation Centre, Stephen Barry-Hannon of Circular Bioeconomy Research Group (CIRCBIO), Patrick Daly and Paula Gallego of Circular Reno and Sean Douglas of BiOrbic, Bioeconomy SFI Research Centre. We would also like to thank our internal speakers Sandra Del Bove (Group Head of Innovation), Hannah Roughneen (IKON), Pierre Kerhascoët (Kingspan Data Solutions), Michael Makas (STEICO), Gerrit Jan Kuiper (Unidek) and Karl Crowley (IKON). Special thanks to Rachel Keegan, Jeannine De Sales, Shannon Molloy, Fiona Barry and Pauline Owens for their help and support in the planning and running of the event. We are grateful to all who attended and contributed to the discussions. Together, we are paving the way for a sustainable future in construction. #Kingspan #IKON #IKONInnovation #BioTechnology #BioBasedMaterials #Sustainability

'There are a number of male role models in my life but the first one that came to mind is my older brother Ruairi. He has made a career in digital marketing and web development, two things that I have developed an interest in, and I have followed all of his advice along a similar path so far.' Conor Browne, Kingspan Insulation, explaining how, like many of us, his brother is a role model in his life, as we've been acknowledging the males shaping tomorrow, at home and at work, since International Men's Day on November 19th. #InternationalMensDay #RoleModels

'On the world stage I'd say Ryan Reynolds for his witty character and what appears to be genuine approach to his career and personal life.' Tommy Martin, IKON Head of R&D, describing how Ryan Reynolds is admirable in his approach to life, as we acknowledge on the week of International Men's Day, the men in our lives shaping tomorrow. At home and at work. #InternationalMensDay #RoleModels

'My male role models vary depending on the perspective—whether it’s work, sports, family, or life in general. I’ve been fortunate to cross paths with some truly great people in all these areas. But above all, I feel incredibly lucky to have two older brothers who have set the bar high in every aspect of life.' Shane Reilly, IR Sustainability Lead, explaining how his two brothers continue to inspire him, as we acknowledge on the week of International Men's Day, the males in our lives shaping tomorrow. At home and at work . #InternationalMensDay #RoleModels

'My role model was my grandfather, a man who was meant to be born and grow up in Texas, instead was born into the part of Ukraine then under the Russian empire, and who lived through both world war and Stalinist repressions, only to finally retire in Texas in his 80s, where he promptly learned English and loved flirting with waitresses and sales clerks. He never lost spark for life and had the most brilliant sense of humour about everything.' Sasha Shekhter, Chief Legal Officer, explaining how his grandfather's character was very admirable, as well as his zest for life, as we acknowledge on International Men's Day, the males in our lives shaping tomorrow.
